Do not let the screenshots turn you away. Pony Island is a genuinely smart game which manages to surprise you all the way through its short running time. "One trick pony" this is not.
It's a bit crazy and over the top, and also something really different from your average videogame. Considering the price, if you're involved in the indie side of things, this might be the perfect choice for you.
I wanted to give 9/10, but I started to think about the drawbacks... and I've found none. One could not simply make this game better, it excels all its ambitions. Must play for computer games lovers (this title will become classic like Portal or Stanley Parable).
The game is extremely well done and is unique to every other game I've played. The fourth wall is broken multiple times and there are quite a few characters other than just ponies. The easter eggs were hard but fun to find. It manages to keep the game creepy and scares you without the need of jumpscares. I love the 'Show don't tell' with the puzzles and just the puzzles overall. The only problem I have with this game is near the end where it's shown that it was obviously made for Windows 7 and definitely needs an update so it can change depending on what OS you're using.
This is not a game about Ponies. This is a bizarre puzzle game that consistently surprises the player and is definitely worth your money. We don’t want to spoil anything, just try it: it’s ridiculously brilliant.
Due to the fact that Pony Island only asks a minor investment in terms of both time and price point ($5), but even more so because it's just so much fun, it falls under "must-play" territory and provides a vastly different experience from other modern-day indies.
Pony Island is a small game that will never manage to get the audience of an AAA release but in many ways, this game is more engaging than plenty of the big launches of last fall because it features some truly innovative moments and can deliver a narrative that it's disturbing and interesting to the end.
A very short and very sweet metagame. I can't actually say anymore without spoiling it so just go and play... You won't regret it. Afterwards go and learn your fractions with Frog Fractions.
Definitely worth a look. Interesting concept of playing a game in a game which is corrupted. It's not a overly long game, maybe 2-3 hours out of it. At the right place it is worth a look as it's a quite different to the norm.
This game is very very short and yet still manages to get repetitive and dull. The subversions here hardly work because the game immediately blows its own load before you even played for five minutes. It's not terrible but there's no reason to play this instead of Daniel Mullians other games.
Interesting concept but gets boring and repetitious pretty fast because best part of the game is not really the main time spending part (side scrolling and puzzles).
SummaryPony Island is a suspense puzzle game in disguise. You are in limbo, trapped in a malevolent and malfunctioning arcade machine devised by the devil himself.
