Tracking issues can hamper some of the games, leading to missing a save in air hockey, or some off kilter shots in pool, but with updates, additional games, and continued support, SportsBarVR could end up being the defacto virtual reality hangout platform for PS4 players.
This is so much fun if you engage with voice chat, and treat it like a genuine sports bar, + talk to people. the mini games might not be the best, but messing about with strangers is awesome
I bought this game at release and i didn't think much of it and put it down and never played it again, But having found a renewed love for my PSVR i tried it again and i am so happy with how far they have come in a year.
Sports bar is a virtual bar where you can go online in a cross platform game and mess about with other lunatics in a VR Helmet.
You can "Drink" Beer then smash the bottles, you can play pool while levelling up and changing your pool cloth and pool cues.
Skeeball is a personal favourite of mine and i went on to win some tickets and realised an hour had passed just playing random people who joined me.
Other games include shuffleboard which is fun, Darts which takes some getting used to but once you lock in the dart you slowly learn.
A reaction game which is good fun.
All in all a very good game for a cheap price, although i now compare it to Rec Rooms which is free I do still get on and play this game once or twice a week.
Pros
Good graphics
Fun
Easy to grasp controls
good selection of games
Unlocking Hats
Cons
Darts is hard to grasp
Not many people online at any one time
lack of game variety
8/10 with a few more games could easily move to a 10/10
While Sports Bar VR captures the look and feel of a sports bar, the control scheme combined with Hulk Mode made me feel drunk, complete with hangover. The four games on offer are hampered by inconsistent physics, resulting in an unsurprisingly uneven experience. None of that, somehow, interferes with the game being a stupid-fun experience with friends.
Over-sensitity of Move controllers can be frustrating as can the incredible efficient A.I., but overall Sports Bar VR is a fun party game when playing online.
It's a neat idea, to be sure, but its execution leaves an awful lot to be desired. If anything, air hockey in VR is an enjoyable way to spend a couple of minutes. This, however, is in no way enough to justify the price tag.
Edit: My score for this game was originally a 6. I have upped it to 7 because the developers have released an update that fixes several of the issues I complained about such as the addition of Chess, Checkers, and shuffleboard. They also added some other props to play with and fixed the AI difficulty. Its not just the update that made me raise the rating. It is the fact that the developers are continuing to support their game and listening to the players that complain or make suggestions. My previous review has been left in tact following this sentence ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"First of all, there is no shuffleboard or chess. I have heard this might be patched in though. The darts are hard to aim well even if you use the locking mechanism built in. The ski ball is too sensitive and i can't get it to work by throwing the ski-ball the way you naturally would. I did get it to work consistently, but i have to throw the ball at a weird angle. The pool is OK but you will have to use the hulk mode to even stand a chance and the AI is incredibly good. The hulk mode is fine for me, but it immediately made my wife motion sick. On top of this is it's pretty hard to line up shots across the table because the pool stick locks to the center of the ball no matter what. I see why its this way, but it makes it hard to angle very precise shots from a long distance. The air hockey was probably the best but occasionally i would move the virtual paddle too quickly smashing the puck in between the paddle and the wall. This would sometimes cause the puck to glitch out and disappear. The AI is pretty good for the air hockey as well. With all of that said, the social feature is the coolest part. You can express a lot more than you would think with two controllers and a headset on top of the mic built into the headset. I can see the potential here, hopefully the developers patch in more games and fine tune the ones they have."
Bought it for Shuffleboard which is seen in the trailer. Problem is, it´s only in the trailer. The Dart mode is also worthless since the move controllers dont respond well when you trhrow. And yes, it is only playable with two move controllers.
