When all is said and done, these specials are most assuredly worth your time. They are excellent representations of the art form of standup comedy, delivered by a master of his craft.
With his 2000 show, HBO’s “Killing Them Softly,” as another baseline for the best of Chappelle’s TV standup, this one’s right up there, too--not quite its equal, but close.

He’s notably more frisky in Age of Spin, turning hot-button current events into philosophical quandaries.
The comic’s unexpected swerves and inspired segues are often the best thing about the specials.
A tight, polished hour of jokes with a strong thematic core.
Though they’re wildly different shows, the strengths and weaknesses of Chappelle’s comedy comeback are consistent in each.
Both hours are full of sharp material on subjects ranging from Bill Cosby (it’s complicated) to Chappelle meeting O.J. Simpson (four times!) to why he once ditched a fundraiser in Flint, Michigan, to attend the Oscars (short answer: Chris Rock). Still, after a decade away from churning out content for the masses,Chappelle doesn’t seem very sure of what those masses want or expect from him anymore--and those are the moments when his specials are at their hilarious best and questionable worst.
