It is the most arrhythmia-inducingly tense film I have seen in years: by the end, I felt as if I’d spent the last two hours being dangled by my ankles over a crocodile pit.
A vibrantly madcap dark comedy.
Directed with relentless tension and diamond-hard intelligence by Josh and Benny Safdie (who earlier this month won directing honors from the New York Film Critics Circle), Uncut Gems is a thriller and a character study, a tragedy and a blast.
In the film, a man's individual tragedy illuminates the emptiness of the systems that define him.
There’s something to admire in the pedal-to-the-metal commitment of their project, and certainly Uncut Gems is the product of an uncompromising vision. But I found the result to be claustrophobic and, finally, dull, with scene after scene that hammers home the same point we understood from the very beginning: that Howard is a lost soul, fated to run both his business and personal life into the ground.

This is an unusual movie in that the normal short comings of many poor films are not so evident here.This movie is not boring nor did it send me to sleep, the dialogue was appropriate to the setting and the believability of events was OK. The issue for me was the style, it was so deeply anchored in the non culture of American social ladder climbing as to make you cringe. Probably not a good choice for a non US audience.

Very painful and unenjoyable to watch - couldnt make it to the end and stopped after watching maybe 75%. I don't need to watch an obvious trainwreck - maybe if there was some suspense and it started more positive I would be more attached to the character. But I'm not going to feel sorry for a POS.
