I think that everyone agrees when I say that this is the album of the year so far. Every song has a instrumental quite similar to Taylor Swift works, what makes this album so much better. The last time the world experienced an album like this was Folklore, NFR & Melodrama.

Ever since drivers license came out earlier this year, I have always been grappled by Olivia Rodrigo’s uncommon ability to write phenomenal lyrics. In fact, her first three singles (which I have basically listened on repeat to) were so timely with my personal experiences. Somehow, Rodrigo is able to explain the sea of countless emotions that I know a good number of people have experiences at least sometime in their life, and she does this accompanied by music that is a blast to listen to. For a debut album, this is off the charts. I can honestly say that I am not the type of person who gives out 10s to every album I come across (just check my other reviews out!), but this one absolutely deserves it. The album is balanced beautifully, with calm piano or acoustic guitar-based songs mixed in with “Taylor Swift meets Green Day'' tracks that are exceedingly fun to listen to.

I really wish that I could include my song-by-song commentary, though that would push my review past the character limit.

As a whole, Rodrigo makes a remarkable debut with her first album, SOUR. There was obviously a lot of hype surrounding it, and I can absolutely say that it definitely lived up to my expectations. The sound of the album is terrific, but I feel like Rodrigo truly shines in her most energetic songs (her belting voice sounds surprisingly good). That being said, her lyrics are really what is first and foremost the most brilliant part of this album. Somehow she is able to beautifully convey complex feelings and in addition to that she packs her feelings very eloquently in music form. I know SOUR was just released, but I greatly look forward to hearing what Rodrigo produces in the future. I believe all lovers of music will appreciate SOUR, as it is a combination of multiple forms of music. Olivia Rodrigo, in the miniscule chance that you are reading this, know that SOUR is, I kid you not, one of the best albums I have listened to. You are awesome! Highlights: brutal; traitor; drivers license; 1 step forward, 3 steps back; deja vu; good 4 u; enough for you; happier; and jealousy, jealousy.

This was lovely! Great and pretty varied sonically. Taylor Swift's presence are palpable. The lyrics cleverly constructed and I love how she touched upon subjects such as heartbreak, insecurities and generational trauma . Brutal and Hope Ur Ok are standouts for me. Olivia Rodrigo's debut LP arrived as suddenly as "drivers license" did earlier this year. I personally did not enjoy that song too much. Olivia Rodrigo's debut LP arrived as suddenly as "drivers license" did earlier this year. I personally did not enjoy that song too much. However, it was the next single, "deja vu" that caught my interest. "good 4 u" continued this sustained intrigue of mine. It made me eager to check out "SOUR" when it would drop.

The opening track, "brutal", is self-explanatory. It starts with some cinematic strings, which are quickly scrapped for some heavy and angsty guitars. It is just the contrast that the song needs. "traitor", for me, personally is a nice tune, but it's not one of my favorites.

"drivers license", the album's quintessential tune, is a sweeping pop song about heartbreak and teenage romance, which sets up "1 step forward, 3 steps back" for success. It's a sweet sounding song. "deja vu" and "good 4 u" go well together in the tracklisting, with another acoustic ballad ("enough for you") after.

The album's later cuts, like "happier" and "jealousy, jealousy" are great fun as well, with whispers of the pop sounds of Lorde and Taylor Swift, but with a unique Olivia twist. "favorite crime" made me wonder how much better the album would be with one or two more upbeat songs instead of ballads, but "hope ur ok" really closed the album in an endearing and appealing way.

"SOUR" is an impressive debut. It sets Rodrigo apart from the rest of the pop stars of the time. It'll be exciting to see where she goes from here.

It's instantly obvious that despite her chart toping success and multiple top ten singles:she is not going to conform into ur little pop star. The guitar rifts in the vein of her most recent single "good4u" marches on taking no prisoners as she casually (&callously) contemplates death, drinking, freedom, insecurity and claustrophobia at break neck pace. Providing a promising opener and a great **** omen to wats to come. At 2:19 it attempts to return to the serene (but now creepy)sweet low notes accompanied with violin. Track02:traitor
This seems greatly underwhelming after the angst of the opener as it returns to form&her usual topics. Scolding an ex who did her wrong and supposedly cheated due to how fast they moved. The track stagnants at the d minor drawing from the muses that gave Duncan Lawrence "arcade" and Taylor swift "happiness"
None of these mean the song is bad. Especially considering it precedes the career making and melancholic "drivers license "(which hilariously she makes a nod tp when she say "i barely know how to parallel park.")
Based on the first two i think i can safely assume these will be the only themes explored here:love lost and bitterness
Which never gets boring thanks to her writing prowess. 6/10(I'll do the singles last.i skipped no.3 drivers license)
    Track04:1 step forward,3 steos back
this should come with a warning. it's so emotional. she describes an abusive relationship so precisely it's nearly traumatic. It vaguely swiftian beginning with "new years days" cords but nvr does it sound derivative. She has masterd the art of writing a song. Painting pictures with paintbrushes dipped in the blood of ur heart.she sounds so mature
"I hope ur ok "is very bland tho.

Olivia Rodrigo show us her fears, expectations and frustations as a teenager on the lyrics of her debut album, in terms of sonorities, she show us her versatility as a artist, 'SOUR' is pop, but is rock, alternative and folk too, and the mixture of genres does not make the album lose its fluidity and cohesion.

Olivia Rodrigo debut Album, “SOUR” is a great addition to 2020s music, but in many songs she lacks depth and originality, however, in songs like “favorite crime” and “hope ur ok” Olivia gave us that. While calling back Nirvana, "1 step forward, 3 steps back" pays homage to Joni Mitchell via Taylor Swift's playground piano, and hope ur ok is an Adrianne Lenker indie-folk classic. On the surface, the pop music texture that huge resources are poured into can span from 60s folk to 70s punk to 90s grunge to 10s electronic pop and 20s emo, but at its core, it is like a family soap opera that lasts for hundreds of episodes and is full of youthful reversal and bloodshed. , filtering out all the nutrients of independent music. It doesn't matter whether she looks like Lorde, Taylor, or Avril, because the first step in creating a new star is to replicate past success under the standard of "I hate every song I write." Katy Perry copied Avril, Lady Gaga copied Bowie, and copying is not a fault. The fault is in endlessly replicating immediate success because of it. The result is that the entire album is devoted to discussing the love triangle and all its derivatives - whether it's anger, sadness, jealousy, curses, letting go, blessings. Its deepest point is "I hope you're happy but don't be happier". This beautiful retelling of the self-deceptive Someone Like You completely sinks the youth ballad into the stratum of scar literature. How popular she is represents how precise the manufacturing process of the star-making factory is. From the current point of view, mismatched fire is not a hidden danger, but lack of talent continuity and difficulty in highlighting personal characteristics are. Expand

The lyricism is gorgeous (especially considering her age) but I do hope that with future projects she invests more into the production of her album tracks, as even the more acoustic songs felt like they deserved a little more, sonically, to match the beautiful lyricism. One of the greatest debuts I've ever seen! She is a star. Her compositions are literally poems to my ears, she really doesn't look like a 17/18 year old girl, she brings melancholy that's sounds incredible, storytelling and extremely good composition. She is very talented for a new artist. She deserves every stream and popularity she gets. Olivia truly speechless

Overall, it’s definitely worth listening and i’m so looking forward to her new projects! Expand

What I must focus on 100% is the suffering that this girl has suffered during her adolescence. It's great to see how she channeled her emotions into music, but, I think the industry is too big and dangerous for a transparent queen like her. I hope to be wrong; her tracklist is already in the Billboard Top 40, so we know who's boss now. Is this the Jagged Little Pill of the centennials? Leaving aside that private life, the influence of her likes is notorious, such as country, Taylor Swift, Paramore, etc., and the best thing is that she credits all that; It isn't easy to see singers doing it because of the great artistic ego that predominates in the industry.

fav tracks: "hope ur ok", "jealousy, jealousy", brutal". "drivers licence" & "favorite crime"

SOUR is too sour for me. Her debut as an artist/singer is very big and ambitious. But SOUR represents broken morals and centuries-old stereotypes (the guy dumps the girl and she is mad). All of this is way too much oversaturated on the psycho-girl theme and the pointing fingers game doesn't suit the angel she actually is in real life.

SOUR is an excellent album for the heartbroken. With detailed lyrics, music that is part pop-balladry and part fuzzy-guitar-rock, and tracklisting that has a seemingly perfect flow. This album is the most impressive debut studio album coming from an 18-year-old, and it's exciting to see where her career could go!

Her combination of sweet melodies and bitter moods, her conversational flow, and her self-awareness are all skills many songwriters twice her age would love to call their own, and they make Sour a well-rounded emotional journey and strong debut album.

Sour, for the most part, is a pop album that dips its toes into the alt-pop and bedroom pop subgenres, specifically spending most of its time in the latter. ... Rodrigo's lo-fi deep cuts that were made in the shadow of "Drivers License" can sound a bit repetitive. Her craft as a songwriter is especially evident on tracks like "Enough For You", "Happier", or "Hope Ur Ok", but the acoustic complexion these songs were going for could have benefitted from a bit more background noise.

By the end of the album, Rodrigo has established her voice and showed listeners that she's not afraid to be vulnerable. SOUR is a strong debut that vividly illustrates the beautiful chaos of being inside a teenage girl's brain.
