In short, this is a Jack Antonoff vanity project. Lorde shines on a few tracks (Stoned at the Nail Salon). Unfortunately, most of the album sounds like a "Chemtrails" B-Side. It's like Jack said, "hey Lorde, I have these songs Lana couldn't work with, can you?" Lorde proceeded to polish Jack's turd. Why did I give it a 9? Because it's still great overall and few tracks are amazing.

An absolutely beautiful album! It's about appreciating the life that you have. All the little moments. It's a reminder not everything in life has to be this big bang. I like that. I guess after going through everything we have in the last one and a half year, that's the reminder we needed!

It's not Lorde's problem that you still has an unresolved trauma with your ex and that you're expecting for another Melodrama album. Well, bestie you're just unhappy. Don't blame it to The Lorde. Get therapy.

After Lorde's amazing, groundbreaking Melodrama, Solar Power seems weak in comparison, with the same, airy and boring theme running through. The lyricism is also subpar. The ideas that are trying to be presented are either not being done well or just weak. I don't know what happened to Lorde but this is definitely a great disappointment.

Totally different sound. With each album she's grew as a person, which is totally visible throughout this entire record. Would highly reccomend, fallen fruit being her best track on the album, a letter to her parents generation on the climate crisis that hadn't been addressed when it should of been. 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 'Solar Power' possibly contains some of the best songwriting from Lorde yet. The lyrics are highly visual and at times nod at Lorde's former record 'Melodrama' with slight references and intentional contradictions. It is a completely new sound with clear influences of 60s and at times 2000s pop. If you go into 'Solar Power' expecting anything similar to 'Melodrama' you are in for some HUGE disappointment... It is not logical to compare these two albums because they are reflections of two very different stages in Lorde's life. One deals with sadness and teen angst while the other introduces a more mature input and flawless summery imagery that transports the listener to 'The Island'. Not many albums can do that. I'd recommend listening to the whole album a few times if you are struggling with the change in sound, I promise you'll love it.
A lot of us have already gotten everything we could from 'Melodrama', the last thing we wanted or expected was a follow up to that. My favourite lyric in the entire album is: 'Now the cherry black lipstick is gathering dust in the drawer, I don't need her anymore, 'cause I got this power.'

I think a lot of the people that think negatively of this album and are refusing to give it a chance should think deeply about that quote. Things change, just like the seasons

Her alternative sound now with a 2000s acoustic guitar/piano production is the perfect mix, a lot of people are calling it boring or a downgrade from Melodrama but I see it as a natural evolution from her and her music, giving more versatility to her discography since none of her 3 albums sounds nothing alike. When more people start making this sound and shift away from the trap-pop and the 80s synth pop trends going on people will called it a masterpiece ahead of its time when now they're bashing it so if you're enjoying this album and it's a perfect 10/10 album with you that flows perfectly and has 0 skips now, congratulations because that means our minds can comprehend the art this album is! While a departure from Lorde's previous record and a number of people are not feeling this release, I find it to be a welcome, mature advancement of her musical abilities while also pushing forward in the areas of sonwriting and ambiance/vibe creation, where she succeeded since the days of "Pure Heroin" and perfected on "Melodrama." To me, Lorde shines brightest on the album's opener, "The Path," and on the album's closer, "Oceanic Feeing," which makes me happy as she wrote these songs alone. This album opens with realism ("'cause we're all broken and sad") and optimism ("let's hope the sun will show us the path" and an invitation to try to find the escape. The album closes by reminding us that all, hopefully, will be revealed in its time, but Lorde shares the importance of living in the moment and how finding that escape in the form of enlightenment hasn't happened, but you have to keep trying. Lorde, known for disappearing after album cycles are completed, ends the album announcing her desire to disappear in the crowd again when the time is right with "I know you'll show me how / I'll know when it's time to take off my robes and step into the choir."

If I am being honest, my initial rating was much lower in the B-/C+ range as I was not feeling the vibes on half of the songs despite loving the lyrics on all of the songs. However, I have listened to the album numerous times in various ways: through my AirPods, my phone speakers, and through my car. It clicked with me and I felt happy with this album on all levels. I still wish that "Stoned At The Nail Salon" didn't sound like Lana Del Rey's work on "Chemtrails at the Country Club" and that "Leader Of A New Regime" was a fuller song as I do love it so much, but it is still effective in its role on the album. I have seen numerous posts on social media talking about how it is a "summer album," but I don't see it that way. It's a life journey album with cameos by the healing power of the sun, being present in the moment, feeling all of the feelings (not just the good vibes), and knowing we are all a work in progress. Also, major props to Lorde for incorporating the cicadas. The sound GREAT in "Oceanic Feeling."

California carrega o album.

Even though it's not her best work to date (Melodrama is hard to top, not just for her, but for any artist) this is definitely an interesting and joyful new direction Lorde is heading towards. Among my favorite tracks are The Path, Fallen Fruit, Secrets from a Girl, Mood Ring & Oceanic Feeling.

It's fresh and she clearly renewed her sound, it's another phase of Lorde. Melodrama is better, definitely, but this is not a bad album AT ALL. Just as Chemtrails Over The Country Club, being the predecessor of a great album (Norman F*cking Rockwell) made the audience have great expectations and be disappointed by the work when it's actually a good album. You can feel a different Lorde, a new sound. Fresh, nature-like, and with hipster vibes. It's very emotional. The cicadas, acoustic sounds, and guitars blend in together to give us a whole experience. Solar Power is a great album, there's no doubt of that. Lorde took us to the beach and we sat quietly listening to something bigger, full of nostalgia and love. She appreciates the path and definitely grew while walking it. Fallen fruit is a big highlight, and Secrets of a Girls Who's Seen It All feels so nostalgic and thoughtfully. California, Oceanic Feeling, and The Man With the Axe let us hear a deeper part of Ella. And lyrically, its also a masterpiece. Thank you Lorde, please keep making music Expand

Lorde does not make music to easily digest on the first go-around. this is a new sound for Lorde and music all together; however, it also excuses early 2000s Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten' in songs like Mood Ring, Secrets of a Girl, The Path. The slower songs are unique to Lorde and honestly refreshed how different it is from the other girl's jack antonoff has been working with. I think that the lyrics are hard to relate because she makes music we learn to relate to and grow from. i did not understand the pain and all experiences Lorde attempted to convey at first with Melodrama, but over time it was the most beautiful record that anyone could find something to relate to in the song writing, but as I have said, that takes time. I rate this a 10/10 album as it is remarkably stunning. Sounds like a summer daydream through and through. Lorde makes masterpieces and that is the only thing to expect from Solar Power. Expand

All these connections Lorde is trying to make: her strange pastiche imagination of the ’70s, that random spoken word interlude by Robyn about climate change, and the themes of “sun healing,” never fully reach each other. Often, they come off as disingenuous and out of touch more than they read as brilliant, or comical. Whether the album is one big prank, or just one majorly failed experiment, the gist of having the “privilege to ignore” is lost in translation. All you are left with is just a handful of pretty alright songs.

If you're riding and vibing with Lorde, this bright shapelessness is superb mood music. If you're not riding her wave, Solar Power can seem elusive, even cloying, as it circles and sways with a smile.
