This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Evermore, the second album Taylor released in 2020 is just as good as the first (or maybe even better if that is possible lol) It is more of an alternative rock album but it still has the minimalist, acoustic and folk elements of Folklore. Its an excellent album with so many beautiful stories and highlights. The openor, Willow is a sweet love song which kind of reminded me of Invisible Strings from her previous album. Champagne Problems and tolerate it are these really sad songs about being misunderstood and unappreciated, i love them! Gold Rush is also a lovely song about being jealous of your good looking partner who you think everyone wants, a fairly relatable song. No body , no crime is my favorite song from this album which revolves around a murder mystery , its just so moody and irresistible. This song and Cowboy like me remind me of her older country songs. Happiness is a bittersweet song about moving on after a breakup and its also another highlight for me. Ivy is a song about a forbidden love and kinds of reminds me of illicit affairs from her previous album though it sounds very different. Coney Island is very nostalgic and Matt Berningers vocals here are just so good!!!! Long story short is one of the more fun songs where she is in a new relationship and she recounts her former lover and the bad situation she was it. its a story about hope, picking yourself up and starting over. Its brilliant. Marjorie is also another highlight with many quotable one-liners, i just cant explain how gorgeous this song is. Its about someone who passed away and the regret of not having appreciated them more and also the memories they leave. The production on Closure is very unique and catchy and the song addresses an ex who tries to reach out after a break up- its good trust me! The title track is brilliant. Just like their duet on Folklore it also has a call and response part in the middle and Bon Ivers vocals are amazing!. Its a beautiful ballad. I also really loved the message from Its Time to go, a song about knowing when to let go and taking no **** I love the sentiment of the song, the idea that giving up is not always a sign of weakness. Its amazing. All in all, the album is excellent, her song writing gets better and better. I cant wait for whats next. Expand

While it's possible that it can be argued that it's completely valid that Taylor Swift has decided to have a sound change on her latest surprise album, that precise change would be laudable if it were at least an effort with different variants.

While it's possible that it can be argued that it's completely valid that Taylor Swift has decided to have a sound change on her latest surprise album, that precise change would be laudable if it were at least an effort with different variants.

But a double album, because that's what the two combined albums are, with more than 2 hours of music and more than 30 songs that can hardly be differentiated between themselves, it does seem incredible that she's given so much credit, and especially the recognition.

But her name weighs too heavily on the mainstream, and that tends to cloud the criteria of the so-called "music critics." It's not that the songs are bad, but that they're completely irrelevant and in many ways they even sound a lot like filler.

Because when you release something that's supposed to be ambitious, the result has to respond to that ambition, and in this case and like its predecessor, there's nothing worthy of the accolades it has received, because I've even read that both albums are considered masterpieces.

True, she had a prolific streak as a songwriter, but does that justify all the material? No, not by far.

To some extent even by its very nature, Evermore despite being considered a complete studio album, it doesn't show any kind of growth on what she did in Folklore, it's just more of the same.

These songs basically feel like songs that maybe she couldn't or didn't want to include in the first album, but there's no sonic or lyrical difference that justifies the effort.

Definitely her fans will always get anything from her without question, and frankly that's not my business or my problem, but definitely for me it's a real disappointment.

If it had taken her two years to create this album, I would have understood why; the album is just that good. The fact that she released two universally acclaimed albums in the course of a few months still blows me away.
It is my belief that both Folklore and Evermore should AT LEAST have a 90% critic rating. I challenge any other artist to attempt to create what TS managed to do...........in under a year........during a PANDEMIC. As usual, I believe that critics also judge her character in addition to the music she puts out, and they judge it more harshly than they do other artists (why Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next received an 87% is beyond me).
But the bottom line is that this is a very impressive body of work. Just like Folklore, the production is thoughtful, cohesive, and not over - produced, just as the lyricism is eloquent and the storytelling vivid, immersive, and, at times, gut - wrenching. The marriage of these qualities really exemplifies itself in songs such as 'Champagne Problems,' 'Happiness,' 'Cowboy Like Me,' 'Willow,' 'Coney Island,' 'No Body, No Crime,' and 'Tolerate It.' These are easily some of the best songs on the album.
There were a few songs I immediately didn't care for - 'Long Story Short, 'Gold Rush,' and 'Closure,' to name a few - but even those grew on me after listening to them a few more times.
It doesn't matter if you're completely unfamiliar with Swift's work, or if you've never liked it in the past. There's a song on this album (and Folklore) for everyone. And I believe that most listeners will fall in love with it. .

What an amazing body of work this turned out to be. It's astonishing that Taylor put out two masterpieces within a year, just two superb albums.

This album tastefully ventures further into the indie-pop-folk hybrid Taylor has created. The lyricism and instrumentals seem to be even further developed than Folklore, one could argue. Although Folklore seems to be more sonically cohesive, Evermore is the perfect sister album and dissects some very complex topics into digestible art.

Incredibly, Taylor Swift has managed to follow up her excellent "folklore" album with another cracker inside of 6 months. "evermore" could have worked as a double album with "folklore" but I'm glad they are separate entities. These two albums remind me of Radiohead's "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" era, obviously not stylistically but in the way that an artist has produced two noticeably different albums drawing from the same well of water. "evermore" is the more expansive album and has more experimental touches but is very much a folk pop album. Swift's ability to craft a melody is astonishing. With these 2 records in the one year, catching fire with Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner, I reckon she has reached an absolute creative peak. Expand

No way, another album from Taylor this year and it is another masterpiece. This just another masterpiece album from Taylor and I feel it might be as good as folklore. The writing is astounding, the storytelling is so beautiful and cool and I feel might even be better than folklore's. The experimental and unique but simply and dipping into alternative country production is exceptional. Taylor's voice is sounds so pretty as usual. The artwork is nice if simple. The instrumental is phenomenal. I think all of the songs are excellent and I ranked them and my ranking is no body, no crime, gold rush, long story short, willow, coney island, ivy, tolerate me, tis the damm season, evermore, it's time to go, closure, dorothea, champagne problems, cowboy like me, marjorie, right where you left me, and happiness. Also the video for willow is outstanding, gorgeous. My 2nd favorite album of the year right after folklore and one of my all time favorite albums. Another A+ album from Taylor. Expand

It is without question a wintering record, but out of this muted musical landscape songs of great and complex beauty emerge. [Mar 2021, p.34]

Even though we get a catchy moment of goofy, snarling country midway through, the album is a result of the emotional clarity that a year in quarantine provided. Swift has written about curdling relationships splendidly in the past, but there's a new dimension to her writing that wasn’t there before. Onward.

The pandemic seems to have freed her, given her the space to breathe, and has allowed her to produce her most elegant and sophisticated work to date.
