Taylor Swift is in a league of her own. She is her only competition and yet she manages to constantly and consistently outdo herself with every project. What an incredible album, and what a perfect follow-up (or "younger sister") to "folklore".

An incredible album following up folklore. Taylor has been consistent through her whole career but this last two albums have been more than consistent. They have propelled her artistic career to another level. A level only known by a small number of artists in history.

A wonderful exploration further into the woods of folklore while still creating an independent sound that can stand on its own. Taylor Swift's unparalleled lyricism shines even among an amalgamation of instrumentals, creating a memorable experience from start to finish.

There are some songs that are good like "Willow", and "Evermore" and only other TWO songs. This is too good to be true. I believe willow is her best opening track and her best lead single. This was a miss for me. Most of the songs sound like folklore rejects and I can’t decipher a cohesive story in these songs. There is absolutely nothing special about any aspect of this album; lyrically, melodically, vocally... it sounds very recycled and a replete of folklore. A major miss for me.

Taylor Swift is a talented artist, but, it’s gotten to the point where people are praising her for being pretty mediocre whereas her Black and Brown counterparts have to work five-times harder for people to accept their work and creative vision. “folklore” was very telling in that, though the writing has been the same writing from her earlier LP’s “Speak Now,” and “Red,” critics and fansTaylor Swift is a talented artist, but, it’s gotten to the point where people are praising her for being pretty mediocre whereas her Black and Brown counterparts have to work five-times harder for people to accept their work and creative vision. “folklore” was very telling in that, though the writing has been the same writing from her earlier LP’s “Speak Now,” and “Red,” critics and fans alike thought it was groundbreaking for her to release a surprise album; something many of A-list artist have done before (i.e Beyoncé). “evermore” is a continuation of “folklore” and sounds just like that; a B-side to her eighth studio album. Though standout tracks include “‘tis the damn season,” “no body, no crime (feat. Haim),” the album still lacks that breakthrough hit. Taylor has gotten to a point where she doesn’t have to try so much to hit number one, however, she still uses tactics such as releasing multiple versions of the same album, releasing an ‘exclusive’ physical deluxe album, that’ll most-likely end up being releasing to DP’s the following week, discounting “willow” to $0.69 at digital stores, etc. It’s time for Taylor to be a more genuine artist, especially an artist of her stature. You don’t see heavyweights like Beyoncé, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Adele, discounting their music so early, re-releasing the same album every other week, etc. Taylor is used to having all eyes on her and taking all of the attention away from others and “evermore” is a reflection of just that. While it's possible that it can be argued that it's completely valid that Taylor Swift has decided to have a sound change on her latest surprise album, that precise change would be laudable if it were at least an effort with different variants.

While it's possible that it can be argued that it's completely valid that Taylor Swift has decided to have a sound change on her latest surprise album, that precise change would be laudable if it were at least an effort with different variants.

But a double album, because that's what the two combined albums are, with more than 2 hours of music and more than 30 songs that can hardly be differentiated between themselves, it does seem incredible that she's given so much credit, and especially the recognition.

But her name weighs too heavily on the mainstream, and that tends to cloud the criteria of the so-called "music critics." It's not that the songs are bad, but that they're completely irrelevant and in many ways they even sound a lot like filler.

Because when you release something that's supposed to be ambitious, the result has to respond to that ambition, and in this case and like its predecessor, there's nothing worthy of the accolades it has received, because I've even read that both albums are considered masterpieces.

True, she had a prolific streak as a songwriter, but does that justify all the material? No, not by far.

To some extent even by its very nature, Evermore despite being considered a complete studio album, it doesn't show any kind of growth on what she did in Folklore, it's just more of the same.

These songs basically feel like songs that maybe she couldn't or didn't want to include in the first album, but there's no sonic or lyrical difference that justifies the effort.

Definitely her fans will always get anything from her without question, and frankly that's not my business or my problem, but definitely for me it's a real disappointment.

Taylor still showing her potential in music industry. "Evermore" just tell us what folklore started. The history continue, and still amazing.

It is without question a wintering record, but out of this muted musical landscape songs of great and complex beauty emerge. [Mar 2021, p.34]

Even though we get a catchy moment of goofy, snarling country midway through, the album is a result of the emotional clarity that a year in quarantine provided. Swift has written about curdling relationships splendidly in the past, but there's a new dimension to her writing that wasn’t there before. Onward.

The pandemic seems to have freed her, given her the space to breathe, and has allowed her to produce her most elegant and sophisticated work to date.
