We were tempted by Quarter Past Midnight and Joy. However, with a title such as Doom Days you could foresee how this album might play out and it doesn't let you down in that respect. The vocal and harmonies fail to raise this set of songs from sounding like an evening in with the un-dead..

The lead vocal sounds like he is zombie captain and seems mainly in pain and other distresses. The harmony fails to counteract.
I sit here writing, imagining sitting / standing watching people attempting to sing along to this, watching pain in their faces, heartbreak in tour t-shirts, weeping, feeling thoroughly depressed at exit.
Fortunately, by the time they take their offspring , Bastille will be merely running off their catchy greatest singles list and the said offspring will be spared the dreariness. 4 ZZZZ

A pretty dissapointing third album. The production and instrumental is the biggest issue on the album. The hooks aren't as catchy and Dan Smith's performances could be better and more divers. Crossing my fingers for their next album to be finally great

Every indie/electro pop cliche dilutes the lyrical content. Except for Joy — Joy is excellent

Mostly this is just a bit Bastille by numbers. If you’re looking for a photocopy of their previous albums, faded and off-colour, Doom Days will satisfy.

A record which thrives on evoking feeling and catharsis, while remaining committed to their personal influences, on Doom Days they’ve managed to deftly build a conceptual world not all too different to the one we’re facing right now, and that feels like a triumph in itself.

An album overflowing with ambition and ideas. [Summer 2019, p.109]
