This is Big Sean's best project hands down. I've been waiting for him to make an album like this since he debuted. Vibes are lighthearted and positive, but Sean's verses are some of the best he's had his whole career. Hit-Boy and Key Wane also have their best production on this album. It's just an overall great album and one of the best rap albums of the year.

In my opinion, this is the best project sean has ever made... like ever. You can tell in every song the newfound hunger he has been given.

Sean’s best album since Dark Sky Paradise and possibly his magnum opus. He is rapping out of his mind on this and with the most emotion in his career. I hate to bring up DSP again but it’s so laser focused like DSP was towards the beginning and Sean makes his best work when he is. He has a reputation for being “corny”, probably because of FF and that garbage Metro album, but that’s verySean’s best album since Dark Sky Paradise and possibly his magnum opus. He has a reputation for being “corny”, probably because of FF and that garbage Metro album, but that’s very overstated. There aren’t any corny bars here. I hope this isn’t the last Sean album or his last good one because he put a lot on the table here. Expand

I never liked big Sean before this album, after listening to this it is possibly my album of the year so far. A passion project that exceeds all of his previous work by a long shot. Emotional, sexy, hard hitting, and surprisingly dark at points.

Detroit 2 shows when Big Sean opens up and tells his story he’s an artist worthy of being in the conversation of the best of his era. He just needs to come back stronger with more airtight songs and not attempt to attract every audience that’s out there.

It gets bogged down in the doldrums somewhere between the personal and universal, and ends without truly having reached either shore.

There are moments on Detroit 2 that feel special, but Big Sean himself rarely has anything to do with them.
