  1. While State Champs is not necessarily reinventing the idea of what it means to be a pop punk band, they’ve sure as hell perfected it.

Around the World and Back is far from the final destination for these champions of New York pop punk/rock, but it's a definite step forward on their journey to take the world, and their genre, by storm.

The group put enough spin on the source material to make these songs their own. [Nov 2015, p.97]

    There's a maturity--or at least a noticeable growth--in the band's sound and abilities. [10 Oct 2015, p.50]

The quintet still perform pop-punk better than many of their contemporaries, and it should be noted that this LP sounds significantly more effective when played out loud, rather than through head or earphones... But it’s difficult to ignore the feeling that they are capable of better.

It's not a giant step forward, but it's still got all the upbeat energy, and the nostalgic touch that was in "The Finer Things". A little bitIt's not a giant step forward, but it's still got all the upbeat energy, and the nostalgic touch that was in "The Finer Things". A little bit too mainstream at times, "Perfect Score" in particular, but overall this is a great album. State Champs mix the old with the new, pulling from 00s pop punk, and then from more recent iterations of the genre (i.e. A Day to Remember and All Time Low), to find some middle ground between the two styles.
