The Exorcist is diabolically inspired: it’s still capable of making you jump and yelp.
Unlike a number of director’s cuts, this version does embellish the original film. It won’t, however, win any converts. Fans should see it again, first-timers should believe the hype. Non-believers should suffer eternal damnation. [2000 re-release]

The Exorcist is a cult mystical horror film. The Exorcist is still relevant, and many horrors try to be like it when created. An excellent construction of the film, where literally the whole film of the viewer is kept in suspense as in a good thriller. Scenes that were also iconic for their genre are a great ending. The Exorcist is definitely one of the most action films I've ever seen, provided that the film is not a thriller. Don't miss this movie if you haven't watched it, but heard about it. Do not pay attention to the release date, it still looks great and has not lost its relevance. The best horror movie I've seen.

I personally cited this film as "the most insanely powerful horror film I've ever experienced in cinema."
This legendary horror film was the very first film I had watched in cinema when I moved to Sweden. And it was absolutely the never-to-be-forgotten experience I had ever had in cinema. It surely is a terrifying film to watch, yet it's the big triumph of the horror films!

There's something elemental about The Exorcist, even with the new hopeful ending that betrays the bleak original. [2000 re-release]
Working from Blatty's own screenplay, director William Friedkin sets his own unhurried pace. That pace, at times, does seem a tad glacial, and that is the film's biggest failing. But unlike so many horror flicks that followed, this one really is about something. It's about several things, actually: coming of age and letting go, mainly, as well as getting sick and growing old. Just as some of the footage deepens what is already there, additions in final reel, though closer to Blatty’s wishes, restate the obvious or add a feel-good patina which pushes the film closer to our own audience-pleasing period than the more daring early ’70s. [2000 re-release]
The care that Mr. Friedkin and Mr. Blatty have taken with the physical production, and with the rhythm of the narrative, which achieves a certain momentum through a lot of fancy, splintery crosscutting, is obviously intended to persuade us to suspend belief. But to what end? To marvel at the extent to which audiences will go to escape boredom by shock and insult.

An absolute masterpiece! A sadistic babysitter made me watch it when I was 11. I had nightmares for four years and it terrified the crap out of me. It still holds up in 2022. Every aspect of this is top notch. From the acting to the directing, to the sound design and of course the special effects. One of the best!
