Traveller isn't just an exercise in classic country revivalism; like Sturgill Simpson before him (with whom he shares a producer in Dave Cobb), Stapleton has taken the old tools and crafted something that feels as new as tomorrow morning.
  2. What a remarkable debut it is: artists rarely arrive this fully formed, this self-assured, or this seasoned in their craft.

It is the 12 songs he wrote and co-wrote that sparkle.

Everything flows naturally, and that ease is so alluring upon the first spin of Traveller that it's not until repeated visits that the depth of the album becomes apparent.

For all the grief and regret it contains, it's a triumphant debut, encapsulating the grit of life, turning it into a hell of a journey.

Whether or not country is your genre of choice, it’s hard to knock Stapleton’s ability or skill on Traveller.

Chris Stapleton is a breath of fresh air in the world of country music and this strong debut album proves that. For awhile, it seemed like country music was disassociating from it's roots. Now, I'm glad we finally have a truely talented artist who has reminded us what country music and music in general is really about. It's about soul, conviction, and passion. With that being said, my favorite songs on this album are: His cover of Tennessee Whiskey, Fire Away, and of course the title track just to name a few. Overall, this is an amazing album, and only time will tell if it will become a classic. If you haven't heard this album, I highly recommend it. :) Full Review »

Wow. Fantastic debut album which will renew your faith in authentic country music which can appeal to any music lover. Songwriting,Wow. Fantastic debut album which will renew your faith in authentic country music which can appeal to any music lover. Songwriting, performance, sound, in fact everything really is a home run. Chris has an awfully impressive voice, which is used to great affect on these country tunes. This falls closer into the alt/outlaw country vein, but does not have a foot completely in either camp. The songs run the gamut from dark to sunny and cover a variety of topics. Tennessee Whiskey, When the Stars Come Out, Outlaw State of Mind, and Might As Well Get Stoned are about as good as it can get. The other tracks are no slouches either. Get this record! Full Review »
