a very edgy and impressive album. Still sounds fresh 3 years later. Most of the instrumentals are ahead of their time, and Beyonce's voice is beautiful. I don't like some of the layback and strange rhythm, but overall a solid project. Btw, where is the next solo project?!!

    Personal rating:
Pray you catch me: 10/10(amazing track! The structure, the vocal, the instrumental(especially the orchestra and the harmony) are all project!)
Hold up: 9.5/10(the soft sound layered in the verse is so cute!! love the pre-chorus, the outro is interesting, but I don't like the trumpet or something that occurs repeatedly)
Hurt Yourself: 6.5/10(my least favorite track, it's too intense for me, the instrumental is also not my type)
Sorry: 9.5/10(as the song progresses, I love it more.)
6 inch:9.5/10(the weeknd is great in this track)
Daddy Lessons: 8.5/10(love the mood and vide of the track, but it sounds somehow familiar and too basic)
Love Drought:10/10(love the instrumental and the vocal in this track! the chorus is perfect!)
    Sandcastles:9.5/10(a powerful ballad)
Forward:7/10(not my favorite, it's a interlude so it doesn't hurt)
Freedom: 8.5/10(love the chorus, doesn't like Lamar's part, love the outro)
All night: 9/10(love this track but it's too long for me)
Formation: 10/10(amazing!! the best track on the album!)

Honestly very close to perfect. It's emotional, catchy, liberating, furious, sad, joyful, without ever seeming noncohesive. Each song has its own style, genre, etc. but the consistent narrative running throughout brings it all together.

Absolutely STUNNING album. She proves herself as the most versatile artist of our generation, there are so many styles on this album: Soul, R&B, Ballads, Pop, Country, Rock, Regggae, Bounce... This may be acknowladged in a few decades as the best album in history. It's incredible. I've never experienced something like it before. This made me fall in love with her and now i'm an stan.

LEMONADE is by far Beyonce's most polished and consuming work to date. Notable tracks include "6 Inch", "Love Drought", "Formation", and the exceptionally fiery and far-reaching "Don't Hurt Yourself". The album is extremely concentrated in its concepts, and fully in charge in what it sets out to say.

The lyrics of “Formation” are obviously filled with black power. We can hear Beyonce’s unique rap singing in the verse that has been featured in her last top-ten hit “Drunk in Love”, talking about how excellent and stylish she is and featuring several symbols of Black heritage such as afros and Jackson Five nostrils. After introducing those important self-defining features, she started to announce her attitude in the chorus. The chorus, with the styles of Bounce and Hip Hop, starts to repeat certain inspirational statements like “I dream hard and work hard … cause I slay, I slay, I slay.” Moreover, we can even notice certain words like Albino Alligators, which are used to satirize the white supremacy in the society. The lyrics are orientated to encourage the cultural, political and commercial independence of the black power so it is unavoidable to hear various critical and even extreme comments on this song. However, Beyonce is supported by the majority of people and organizations in the society. For example, Saturday Night Live made an interesting parody video mocking the racist reactions of the conservative white community to “Formation”.

The music video of “Formation” actually adds more controversial symbols of the African American culture and sensitive political implications to it. The video starts with a tragic scene in New Orleans after the hurricane Katrina in 2005, as an irony that the police rarely did anything to protect the safety of black communities there. Then we can see Beyonce plays several roles as a black woman — a mistress, a housewife, or a leader and she portrays every role as indomitable and self-conscious who will is not pitiful in both look and behaviors. It ends with Beyonce and the car on which she stands sinking into the flood, an irony that the police almost became the stand-by during the whole disaster, which is dramatic but politically inflammatory. Actually, we can detect more political implications such as the scene that a black child is dancing hip-hop in front of a crowd of white policemen with weapons and they surrendered to the kid in front of a wall with slogan “Stop Shooting Us!”, as a reference to the recent shooting accidents happened to some black teenagers by the police. All of those scenes imply that this video is definitely politically inspirational — The long-held discrimination toward African American communities is still ubiquitous in most aspects of the society including the government. Moreover, the video indirectly supports the Black Lives Matter Movement with the mothers of certain victims holding pictures of their sons.

Its live performance then puts everything explicit or implicit in this song on the stage in front of the whole nation and directly asserts its central content — the black power. She took the stage of Super Bowl on February 7th, with her “Black Panther with Golden X” outfit as a tribute to Michael Jackson and the dancers’ X formation as a tribute to Malcom X. She then instantly joined the performance of Bruno Mars and they shared the stage just like two boxers on stage competing for the spotlight. Noticeably, Bruno Mars, who is partly Filipino, and she, who is from Houston, are both two black superstars in this century and they later performed with Coldplay from UK, strongly calling for marriage equality and race equality around the world as one. What a theme!

Admittedly, it is impossible to avoid mentioning the other nine tracks from this album. The album begins with “Pray You Catch Me”, filled with elusive scent of doubts and mistrusts from a broken-heart. The anger accumulates with the Reggae style “Hold Up” and electro-R&B “Sorry” while she claims women’s independence again, implying that she can still be Queen Bee without Jay Z. Then there is the incredible duet “6 Inches” with The Weeknd, which emphasizes women’s economic independence — “She works for her money from the start to the finish, she worth every dollar and she worth every minute.” In the following songs “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles”, she expresses some forgiveness and her weakness but soon reconnects her personal hardship with the whole nation’s pain. After the interlude “Forward”, “Freedom” is another epic track with elements of rock and roll and Kendrick Lamar’s rap verse, calling for both racial and sexual equality. “All Night”, about rekindled unity and love after a long period of disbeliefs and separations, is a perfect ending for this story while symbolizing the unity of different races, genders and LGBT communities ( a clip from the music video features a scene of a black man and white man kissing). All of them seem to describe the process of this affair and re-unity, but actually symbolize the struggles of millions of Americans for a truly equal society — she uses her own experience to reflect on the social problems with the current American society.

Lemonade really is a masterpiece and her best body of work to date. In this album, Beyoncé speaks about several topics, such as black rights, relationships, and womanhood. The reason why I love this album so much is that she talks about topics that I can relate to. As a black male, I really appreciated how Beyoncé raised awareness about the oppression that black people faced for several years and are still facing today. It makes me really happy that someone as influential and powerful as Beyoncé is bringing awareness to an issue that affects not only me but several people around the world. Beyoncé's Lemonade contains lyrics that touch your soul and amazing production that will keep you mesmerized for days, and for that reason, this album deserves nothing less than a 10/10. In the words of Anderson Cooper, "It's Beyoncé's world and we're just living in it". One of the best albums of the music industry. Beyoncé slays again. It's been almost two months and Lemonade has easily become the most listened album in my catalogue. The lyrics are crazy, very direct and, sometimes, even aggressive. The tunes are totally insane, the production is major point here. Beyoncé's voice cannot be forgotten either, since we have never seen this vocal control from her (very emotional the last lines in "6 Inch", when she says "come back, come back").

The theme of the album needs another important commentary. Relationships and social aspects are included in this album, while changing, without disrupting the harmony, the genres of music contained.

In conclusion, this album is the best thing that could happen to pop music in a period of time in which sex and money are still very present and excessively exploited. This is a masterpiece, it is bold, it is empowering, and it is Beyoncé. This is a lemonade that tastes better with each try you give to it.

A year later and Lemonade still rings relevant. Queen B blends elements of r&b, soul, pop, rock, country and so much more so effortlessly that it feels like second nature. This album is very empowering, political, and just plain bold. This is a record that will be examined by many in the years to come.

After listening to ‘Lemonade’, I do feel that this is the most genuine album Beyoncé has ever released. It’s personal on so many different levels, that so many people can relate to. I think the album title goes perfectly too because ‘Lemonade’ is bitter, and that’s how life is, bitter, yet so many people enjoy it. She turnt a few things in her life, and made a project so important which I believe will help so many others, in different communities and backgrounds to do good. She literally got the lemons that life gave her, and turnt it into lemonade. The truth. It’s an incredible triumph and it only extends the title of ‘legend’ to her name even more. Twelve tracks, well thought out, each one distinct from the others, with many changes in tempo and style and a few surprising for the artist. The album is accompanied by a DVD film, an excellent bonus. It goes through stunningly well-crafted videos to the songs of the album. This has quickly become one of my favorite albums of this decade. I don’t necessarily love every song, but I love many of them, some have grown on me as I’ve listened to them more than once, and I can’t think of any of them that I think less of now than after the first time I heard it. Though I always liked Beyoncé’s music, Lemonade is where she comes into a class that very few pop stars reach. It’s a terrific journey. The album stands a lot for black women in America today, but if you’re anyone else, (including a white guy as I am) you should certainly experience it too. Expand

I have never been heavily invested in Beyoncé until this album. Although she has stepped outside of her typical style, the effort that she puts into it has given returns of sure quality. To say that this is not deserving of acclaim would be a slap in the face of anyone who owns a pair of ears.

This is by far the best Beyonce's album - such a masterpiece from the breathing legend. It's really funny how immature Rihanna's or Gaga's fans (no offence, I like them, but some of their fans... just no) come here just to write his favorite word - overrated. Beyonce's message goes way beyond the music. It touches your soul and makes you feel almost every emotion. By far her best album to date. Most certainly the best female album of the decade and century. Lemonade is not about a cheating man but about a woman's journey to forgiveness. The album starts off with two songs about the suspicion and learning of the man's unloyalty. The next two songs, "Don't Hurt Yourself" and "Sorry", literally scream "You are gonna pay for what you did". "6 inch" features an empowering message to hard working women all around the world, and no, it's not about a prostitute. "Daddy Lessons" takes us back to the roots of this woman's life just for us to further understand her situation, feelings, aggression, sweetness. "Love Drought" is where she starts to reflex and think about how maybe it wasn't all his fault and maybe she did act cold to him before. "Sandcastles" is about redemption, forgiveness. "Fordward" is about moving on, not forgetting about everything that happened, but about accepting it and moving fordward. "Freedom" is explosive, empowering and features a gospel chorus that won't escape your head. "All Night" closes the album celebrating love and features the best lyrics in the whole album: "They say true love is the greatest weapon to fight the war caused by pain", "With every tear came redemption, and my torturer became my remedy'. This album stands next to the bests of all time and has an empowering message about being a proud black woman in the 21 century. Expand
