    It is delicately shaded and tells us more of her hopes, dreams, fears and feelings than any interview ever could. It is this direct communication with her listeners, coupled with the strongest of loyalties to her underground heritage, that makes her music as strong as it is.

    The narrative she introduced with her first single Katy on a Mission--the story of a prospective dancefloor tryst--still dominates, and it’s a subject that barely contains the emotional mileage to sustain a single song, let alone a whole body of work. Her vocal melodies, meanwhile, can feel almost abrasive in their mediocrity. Instead, it’s left to the production to provide the wit, amusement and emotion.

Não éHoney, terceiro álbum da inglesa Katy B, está no meio do caminho entre ser um ótimo álbum e uma verdadeira decepção. Nem lá, nem cá. Não é inesquecível, mas passa longe de dispensável. Há muitos momentos mornos, mas há momentos que pegam no tranco e entregam o fogo necessário. Honey, resumidamente, é agridoce.

    A ideia central de Honey parece ser o de entregar uma sonoridade eletrônica/dance pop/R&B que consiga, ao mesmo tempo, eletrificante para as pistas e poder embalar corações apaixonados e/ou quebrado. A melhor definição criada por mim para esse tipo de sonoridade é "música para fazer dançar e sofrer na pista de dança". Apesar de ter todas as ferramentas e, de certa forma, alcançar o objetivo, Katy B não consegue encontrar uma maneira de fazer o álbum soar melhor do que uma bem intencionada e redondinha coleção de faixas bem produzidas. Ao chamar uma lista de respeito de produtores/artistas com o melhor do eletrônico underground da cena britânica, mas que, infelizmente, nunca encontram a receita perfeita para elevar a qualidade geral do álbum. Com batidas cleans e bem conduzidas, Honey careceu de uma mão mais forte para elevar as canções como é o caso do single Who Am I que tem com um dos produtores o Diplo. A faixa aposta fortemente em uma atmosfera R&B e uma composição forte e, também, viciante. Um ponto positivo em Honey é as suas composições que em momento nenhum caem no lugar comum ou se apoiam em clichês bobos. Entretanto, ainda faltou certa potencia criativa para mostra um lado mais visceral e marcante das crônicas sobre amor e desilusões. Um bom exemplo disso é a faixa Heavy que é um trabalho lírico elogiável, mas que poderia render mais com as aparadas de algumas arestas. O que é uma constância em Honey é a própria Katy B que transita entre as todas as facetas do álbum, das canções dançantes até as mais "paradas", com um graça, elegância e versatilidade reconfortantes, aliando ao fato do seu timbre vocal ser deliciosamente delicado e melódico. Outros bons momentos do álbum são Chase Me, Lose Your Head e versão solo de Turn the Music Louder. Espero que Katy B não fique parada nesse caminho, mas que possa no futuro andar alguns quilômetros.    … Expand
