Millennia is a good turn-based strategy experience that has the potential to become great after some updates and, possibly, expansions. The core idea of alternate historical ages is engaging but needs to be expanded on, with more options and more interactions. The rest of the mechanics are familiar but have just enough tweaks to keep turns interesting. The combat sequences need to go and the title should expand its diplomatic elements and trade system. The development team is planning to add modding support before the end of the year. Millennia isn’t a revolution for the 4X genre but has good ideas, even if they aren’t always matched by the execution.
A genre diamond in the rough that unfortunately still suffers from balance problems and strange decisions, but could definitely blossom into a real Civ 6 alternative.

Millennia is a budget 4X-strategy, the creators of which tried to improve the work of competitors. The result was not ideal, but the game still has that "addictive trait" that makes you want to keep experimenting.
A good turn-based strategy game with interesting ideas that falls short of its potential. More polish and time would have helped. Still worth a look for Civ fans.
Millennia does try to at least partially differentiate itself from the Civilization series, but despite some good ideas and tweaks, it's just another less successful clone. The transition to new periods, which may be different, is especially interesting. However, it is spoiled by poor AI and shortcomings, for example in the diplomacy.
Millennia is a 4X game that's bursting with new ideas and ways to tackle the historical strategy genre. I enjoyed how regions grow and sprawl across the map, the management that this provides, and the alt-history ages provide some fun twists on reality, but Millennia also comes up short in some key areas and a number of concepts aren't fully explored. In particular, the aesthetics of the UI and the combat visualisation are very rough, the diplomacy lacking and there's certainly areas that C Prompt can and will hopefully improve.
Is there a single reason for playing Millennia? Except frustrating mechanic of production chains and insufficiently developed Variant and Crisis Ages, you you won't find anything here that isn't already in Civilization or Humankind. This game is technically weak and has too many things to take care of, but not enough depth.
It's a barely passible Civ clone. The issue is that the thing that really sets Millenia apart from Civ (the ages system) is terrible at release. Each "age" you go up you're supposed to have a choice of 3 ages to pick from; but everyone has to go up to the same age. If one player picks Iron Age and develops that one, every other player loses their choice and must also develop into the Iron Age... and since one of the 3 ages is drastically easier to achieve than the other two, someone ALWAYS picks the easier one and is able to develop it way faster than the other ages. Out of 12 games I've played, the same ages have been developed every single time. In an 8 player game, there is no way to go to any other ages unless all 8 players decide not to pick the really simple, super fast to develop basic one. I tried a few games offline with the AI and they also always pick the basic age, so I don't see how you can possibly try any of the interesting ages out without getting a group of 7 players together to purposely working together to achieve them.

this game is good at first but later on it has some major issues:
1. YOU CANNOT expand anymore!: the points system is capped at 300 and eventually it costs over that to take control of cities!
2. ages don't last long: you barely research stuff and new units in an age than it's time to move to another one and you can't customize the length either unlike civ.
3. not enough customization: custom games you basically pick the ai and a map type and that's pretty much it
4. combat: is dumbed down to the max basically all you do is fill your armies with the units with the highest attack than bulldozer over everything. there is also no wakeup army option when an enemy appears they will just walk right past your army and you won't know they are there until it's too late.
5. AI: is a complete moron they will constantly insult you than attack than want to be friends and allies than cancel it than they will do it all over again. they are also incapable of using naval units. they will send their armies across the sea right into your naval units which you can just wipe them out easily before they get to land LOL.
6. the worst of all: there is a 500 turn limit which you can't turn off! you will barely reach a victory because by the time you get to the end of the game the turn limit is up and it auto ends the game!!
everything has to be done quickly and rushed you can't take your time and enjoy it otherwise you get thrown into crisis ages. your constantly on a time limit and i don't like that.
