There’s a scrappiness to Atlas that pairs well with a human/machine bonding narrative and a fish-out-of-water Lopez trying to figure out how to work a super cool, high-tech armored suit and not die spectacularly.
Atlas does have Jennifer Lopez in all her starry glory in the driver’s seat. It’s not nearly enough, but it’s something.

Good visuals, cute and nice story, great acting, I loved the friendship of Atlas and Smith.

It’s moderately entertaining thanks to its VFX but falls short on its performances and story as the overall idea exceeds the final product.
Lopez throws everything at this, but even major movie-star charisma can’t make up for the recycled story elements, tired exposition and endless psycho-babble. Maybe the machines can take over and do better.
Atlas, an often ridiculous sci-fi epic with dialogue cheesier than a Brie wheel but also an old-fashioned, human heart o’ gold, is a J.Lo movie. Through and through.
I’ve always liked Lopez. Like Brown. Have enjoyed Liu’s recent turns and I’ve always been on Team Mark Strong. But this is pretty bad, and can’t have been any fun to film, either.
Atlas is rote and routine, using the concept of sci-fi and artificial intelligence in the most obvious way: A.I. runs wild, attacks humans, and becomes the central enemy of the entire world; the ultimate threat that humanity must face, battle, and hopefully defeat. But all of it is conventionally realized, uninspired, dull, and something you’ve seen done more inventively a thousand times before.
Classic 'stuck on an alien world' sci fi schlock with some pretty decent if cheesy performances from the cast. Everything feels iterative here from ai compabions to artificial humans and titanfall exosuits -things effevts wise make for a pretty looking if predicable ride. Sadly the plot is the weak point here with very little to titilate the mind as we are watching the fireworks. Despite this I was entertained!

Jennifer Lopez has a narrow range of acting skills. It's the same sequence in every scene: overly concerned or in pain or emotional distress. The script actually has some humor and wit so it's worth watching once.

This movie is the prime example of how bad of an actress Jennifer Lopez is. She struggles to be convincing.
She has been trying to act for more than 25 years and is still bottom of the barrel.
This movie has a lot of potential if someone else was cast for the lead role. There’s a decent plot to the movie but for me just falls completely short because of J-Lo’s horrible acting. Netflix charges people for movies looks this with the big names. So far hers is the worst and hopefully they don’t cast her again for a major movie. Especially putting this out for the summer movie kickoff.
I think if it wasn’t for the AI counterpart this movie would be a flat out 1/2 star rating for me.
I won’t spoil anything for those that are actually fans of Lopez. But they’ll realize early on that choking down 2 hours a f this movie was a pretty poor choice.
Few good points.
The CGI is really good, as mentioned, the plot is decent (it’s different from what’s always masked as new) so fans may stay tuned into the credits roll at the end.
