“The Outer Range” may be a damaged family drama with the catchy hook of inexplicable, uncanny genre, but its most profound and moving qualities may be its ideas of faith and meaning and what happens when the unexplainable shatters what’s left of your beliefs.
The bigger leaps that Outer Range takes and the more expansive story it tells are only part of what makes this second season even better than the already solid first. Sometimes, the best television is just about a bearded Josh Brolin on horseback looking into a black hole that has upended his character’s life and everyone in his orbit.

Original well done kept me interested and cant wait for season 2 it should only get better.

Outer Range is a combination of a big family feud meets Supernatural suspense with a murder element to kick up the dust. It's a Western, but so much more and Brolin delivers a gritty and tough performance as Royal. I'm drawn in and blown away by the way this was put together to draw all these niches into one amazing and captivating series. This show features a fabulous storyline with a great ensemble cast that shines!

The show is mostly about how the hole’s very presence affects the Abbotts and the Tillersons, and the way their animus ripples down through generations. Its ambitions are subtle but powerful, and I can’t wait to see how deep the rabbit hole goes in future seasons.
The second season of Outer Range certainly isn’t boring, but we just wonder if all the time jumping is going to either get confusing or just make for a bunch of jumbled mysteries without answers.
Outer Range season two is unlikely to thrill all but the most devoted fans of its first outing. And while there’s still a decent framework and a game set of actors, there’s no escaping the reality that things will need to click fast if it has any hope of reaching its planned ending.
Outer Range has expansive scenery (when it can be seen), and decent performances from Brolin, Taylor, and Poots. But neither its family drama and supernatural elements are compelling enough to make up for the show’s slow pace.
I do wish it had just decided to rip off “Yellowstone.” Brolin’s good and if the series eschewed the sci-fi conceit there’s enough good actors here to at least make it entertaining. But slathering a sci-fi element on top of it and not understanding what tone to strike doesn’t lead to oil, it leads to crap.
Just the thing we need in a sci fi series. Think an American Dark, but a western also, with Leftovers vibes. Brolin is so talented. He can do so much by saying so little. Interesting characters. A slow burn that might frustrate viewers with ADD, but if you like things that keep you guessing and hypothesizing, this type of science fiction and the way it's delivered, it's just solid gold for heady sci fi fans. Great editing too, which also keeps one guessing harder.

The show feels a lot like the German Netflix masterpiece "Dark". It creates similar intrigue. It has some of the best acting you will see in a show. But unlike Dark, this show feels like it doesn't actually have a plan. It feels like the writers and directors don't know where the show is going, so they're throwing in a vague hint of story while dragging the show along until it eventually gets axed.
If the show gets renewed for a 3rd season (which is highly unlikely} and they announce that it will be the last season, then I think this could be an excellent show with an excellent wrap up. If they instead get axed, or they give no hint of a finale. Then the show is probably still worth watching. Just keep in mind that it's a show designed to create intrigue and lead you toward a resolution. If there's no intent of actually providing a resolution, thenthe show would have done a lot better if they never included scifi and left it as a modern western family drama.

It's a decent show but does seem to lack focus. I'm excited to see a season 2 that can improve upon the first.

Man this show has NO idea what it wants to be. Wife and I agree that the music choices might be the worst in ANY show we have ever watched. Distractingly awful.
It also seems to stubbornly want to say a LOT about God, faith, religion, etc. But its all cynical, critical, and stereotypically Hollywood nihilism. A few of the characters are fairly interesting (Royal, Joy, maybe a couple of others). But at least half of the main cast are annoying and you can't wait for them to be off screen.
Wife and I are still strong defenders of Lost (warts and all) but this puzzle box is a MESS. Instead of building on explaining different plot lines and mysteries, it says "forget those previous two dozen, because here come another dozen more!"
Not a spoiler, but when the wife takes a dead bear cub to a tool shed, comes back to it days later (and it still seemingly isn't rotting or decomposing) and puts her hand it its mouth and forces its jaw to bite down on her **** IT IS NEVER EXPLAINED WHY OR FOR WHAT PURPOSE....I **** just dumb. Big disappointment.

The mystery of the hole and Imogen Poots slightly creepy character got me through three episodes, but by episode four I was bored. This poorly written show is teeming with cliché characters and the dialogue is mostly generic filler to drag the plot out so they could make more episodes. A short story expanded into a series by filling it in with imprudent obnoxious cardboard characters and noise. The music is horrid. So many writers in Hollycrap (and the other studios) these days are lame. Amazon should stick to losing packages, treating its workers contemptibly and sending billionaires to space. Valuable contributions to society.
