  1. As spectacularly successful as the Tindersticks have been in their tribute to the horror of Trouble Every Day, I'm hoping for a lighter confection from their next collaboration with Denis -- something more along the lines of Nenette et Boni.
  2. This music is beautiful enough to stand alone.
  3. Tindersticks create an elegant and unsettling collection of small mood pieces that stand miles apart from anything else you are likely to hear at the local multiplex.
  4. [The title track is] a fantastic storm-brewing, brass-stabbing, Nelson Riddle-goes-Tom-Waits, claustrophobic blues number.... It's not worth buying this album for, however, since the rest of it's made up of frustratingly minimalist snatches of music.

An elegant soundtrack, but not much of an album. [Feb/Mar 2002, p.116]

Many tracks are meaningless in isolation.[#184, p.146]

A little on the bleak side.. perhaps. I prefer moody or melancholic myself - which is exactly why Tindersticks continue to hit the mark. Not A little on the bleak side.. perhaps. Soundtracks should float over you, not attempt to steal centre stage. If you want 'songs' buy a musical. Full Review »

The error I made was to hope that this soundtrack album was going to be about songs. It isn't. The self-titled song is great but you The error I made was to hope that this soundtrack album was going to be about songs. It isn't. The self-titled song is great but you also have loads of derivative music which makes little sense without the actual movie. Full Review »
