She wanders back to Nashville for her seventh release, Thorn in My Heart, and doesn’t miss a step.

Thorn in My Heart defies easy categorization and may be overlooked by country radio for being too rootsy, Americana fans for being too sophisticated, folk fans for being too literary, etc. However, this very lack of boundaries is the record’s greatest strength.

It is yet another in a string of excellent releases by her, but it's also something more. It integrates everywhere Richey's been yet inhabits a terrain completely of her own design.
  4. 60

While all perfectly pleasant and expertly played, there's a nagging wish that Richey would break out of her comfort zone more often. [May 2013, p.76]
