This LP captures Shigeto's embracing of myriad sounds, styles and sensibilities, and while his original sound still shines through, he shows the listener that diving into new territory can have massive payoffs.

It's all somehow pulled off without coming across as aesthetically erratic.

The New Monday would be a great record to put on whilst cruising around Detroit in the dead of night, the only thing holding back this album is that Shigeto sometimes takes his hands off the wheel.

There are moments where things becomes a little sluggish, though perhaps a stumble here and there can be expected when an album tries to fit so much into a short space. For the most part though, The New Monday is a valiant attempt at distilling Detroit’s musical culture into a single, cohesive record.
