Khalid delivers something to tide you over; Suncity is awash in that same energy that has kept him in the musical conversation.

Suncity (named after his former El Paso stomping grounds) goes the distance in capturing slow-moving society, accented with inviting sunbeams, especially on the first-person acoustic number “Saturday Nights.”

The purpose of Sun City doesn’t seem to be a cohesive project but a vehicle to throw seven different sounds into the world and see what sticks. Khalid comes out of the project, mostly the same, still the least controversial pop star we have right now.

Suncity covers some of the same ground as American Teen, but with less exuberance. These tracks tend to sound similar: Somber, swelling melodies, often laid out with a few piano chords or a simple guitar lick; lyrics that hint at various forms of angst but remain vague enough to be all-encompassing; a reassuringly steady mid-tempo beat.

Nice production, nice vibes, nice vocals. Nothing special, but it's a good listen especially if you are in the mood it is giving out.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Suncity is a decent album . The opening track 9:13 gets you i the mood for the album. Vertigo has a beautiful instrumental and Khalid does a great performance. And Saturday nights is easily the best track on the album and maybe Khalids best track of all time, i just can't get enough of it. Salems interlude just feels unnecessary. Motion is probably my least favorite track of the album. Better is just alright. I am not the biggest fan of Spanish songs but Suncity is actually alright. Full Review »

While it is perfectly fine, and at times very good, it often fails to live up to his best work. Full Review »
