  1. Hannigan may be introspective, but she knows how to coax a melody into the sunlight.

Sea Sew is a subtle and intricately woven set of songs that seeps further into you with every listening. [Sep 2009, p.84]
  3. Unassuming and refreshingly lacking in the pretension of so many contemporary folk-pop records, Sea Sew makes for both a challenging and a charming proper introduction for Hannigan.
  4. Hannigan is talented and Sea Sew is a pretty album. It's just if there is a lot of heart in the music, there's not a lot of brain.

Sea Sew exudes the sort of simple, homespun charm that many strive to achieve but so few succeed in pulling off. [Jun 2009, p.123]

These ten songs are mostly slight variations on a sonic theme, but it sure is a hauntingly pretty one. [Winter 2009]

Unfortunately, Sea Sew too often clunks along like its awkwardly punning title. [Jun 2009, p.1010]

I think the problem that some people have is that the music is so subtle and understated that they miss the intricacies first time round - have some patience, people, and try listening again. I play it all the time in my car and, no, I haven't fallen asleep at the wheel - I find it ideal for soothing all notions of road rage when someone cuts me up or does something equally anti-social. Great music to chill out by, whatever stresses and strains you need to escape from. Expand

Beautiful. I gave it a 10 to balance out the ridiculous 0s it's received. I think it deserves an 8.5.

The majority of theNominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2009 - it is quite good but not sure if it was so good it warranted a nomination. The majority of the record has nice, up tempo songs - a big change from her days backing Damien Rice. Well worth a listen but it's fairly gentle stuff and sometimes it can be a bit pedestrian. I saw Lisa play the record live and have to say I appreciated it a lot more after that than before. Expand
