While not exactly “driving music,” Purple Noon is perfect for lounging around during quarantine.

Aug 14, 2020Purple Noon isn't the mindless bliss of programmed Spotify algorithm music but the comfort of hanging out with an old friend.

Aug 11, 2020Musically it turns out to be blissful business as usual for Ernest Greene on his fourth album under the Washed Out moniker. The bittersweet sentiments remain but they are beautifully expressed and wrapped up in classy production, with a notable tension that hangs on every song.

It’s a shame that this time around Greene wants to distance himself from his two best records and early EPs, but Purple Noon is nonetheless an improvement over Mister Mellow because it brings most of what we enjoyed about his early work back – even if it’s not as heavily emphasized.

Aug 7, 2020Given that the chillwave craze only lasted a year or two, this is another solid outing from an artist who has turned a flash-in-the-pan trend into a deep discography.
-
Aug 7, 2020Purple Noon is filled with Greene’s confident, fuller sound. It’s one big step up for Washed Out
