i honestly wasn't the biggest fan of this album when i first listened to it and still don't 'love' it but if for sure is an appreciable body of work. Though a downgrade from her previous 2 albums it very much does have some of the best songs in her discography (ex. title track, pov, worst behaviour)

A basic album, with songs that look the same. Honestly, I don't think anyone – myself included – expected such a monotonous album. Ariana Grande is a very talented singer, but apparently she doesn't like to sing, as we can see when checking the length of the songs. She really needs to innovate. I hope your next album doesn't disappoint us or leave us to be desired like "Positions" did.

One word to describe it: awful. Ariana Grande keeps proving that she can't write and she in fact, is one of the most overrated artists. Please go listen to Life Support by Madison Beer instead of this mess!

Positions consolidates Grande as the great artist that she is, being her most R&B album so far, she doesn't skimp on vocals like she did on her previous album (thank u,next) on tracks like shut up, safety net and (mainly) my hair the artist shows why she deserves the title of greatest vocalist of her generation. Positions is practically a perfect pure r&b album if it weren't for the production of some tracks that leave something to be desired at certain times. A more mature (and better) version of ‘sweetener’ that gets better every time you listen. Ariana proves once again that she is not a simple singles artist but that she can also deliver complex and cohesive albums. Stating her ground as a R&B Icon, Ari launches herself again into the (almost) unknown, some could say that... Grande just created her own style. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Positions is a good album, but I don't consider it one of the best. The instrumentals got saturated and sloppy, some songs are boring to listen to, she could have chosen the singles better, like "Positions", "Motive", "PoV" were great choices. the album doesn't motivate you to keep listening, plus the songwriting is boring. The album was badly publicized and lazy marketing. On the other hand, I liked "positions", "motive", I liked the photo shoot, I liked some partnerships, I liked the reception, I liked some other tracks. Expand

Poor music production. everything feels all over the place and lazy. plus, even with 20+ songwriters and composers, the whole album is still unbearable to listen. Also, Ari should stop using trap as elements in her music. It feels so blackfishing and we are over with it. As a fan I'm disappointed

The stories and messages which Ariana recounts and sings about are all so original and I adore the fact that this is a love album which also explores different thematic messages such as the art of healing and letting go. The production is of my favourite things about the album, it is so distinct to her previous albums. I really enjoy the r&b sound from this album, it reminded me of an r&b and soul album straight from the 80's. I like how she lost the pop sound and kept it to a minimum, after all, Ariana's r&b music is much better than her pop music and her voice is particularly suited for r&b and soul too. The lyrical content was interesting and fun which makes the album interesting. Lastly, the vocals on this album are amazing, the vocal production (which Ariana did herself) was breath taking. From the backing vocals to harmonies and ad-libs, this album might be her best vocally yet. In conclusion, this album is blissful and serene, Ariana has obviously matured as shown on the tracks and I appreciate her effort on this album. An absolute 10/10 album, and I'd recommend that everyone go stream it. Expand

Seems like Dalton gave her his reasons and his arguments but Ari stills not sure, she doesn't want to go through her past again, and her feelings are unstable and her emotional status as wel, so he got her tripping falling with no safety net, no safety net means that she is already in love with him but if she fell she will lose everything bc there's no safety net, she is afraid of losing him like she does in the past with others ex-boyfriends, next we have my hair, where they are connected totally and they spend more time together, not just having sex, but she is asking him to play with her hair, she wants him to play with her hair not only with her body, it's where the love is stronger than ever, when you don't need physical connection to feel the love, just the fact that your partner is by your side and when someone plays with your hair you know the feeling, you feel safe Expand

I found Positions, Ariana Grande’s latest album, to be her best yet, and the only one I have given a positive review to so far (though “Dangerous Woman” came very close). The reason for this? Her music became so much better. Sure, the lyrics can be a little dicey at times (I wish she wouldn’t sexualize them as much), though from a musical standpoint, at least in my opinion Positions is leaps and bounds over its predecessors, “Sweetener” and “thank u, next”. The lyrics were also far less annoying than in “Sweetener” and though just as expletive-ridden as “thank u, next”, the lyrics seemed to me to be more well-written. Now, this is not to say that Positions isn’t without its issues, with trap drums in several songs (though it seems as if Grande is moving away from those, or maybe that’s just my optimism speaking) and many of the swearing seeming a bit unnecessary. Overall though, I was left with a fairly positive experience. Thanks to the character limit, I am unable to provide my song-by-song commentary. In general, I actually really liked Grande’s latest. It’s a musical upgrade from her previous releases and perhaps is her best yet in that regard (less uneven than “Dangerous Woman”). There really is a lot to be admired in this release, though it would have been nice if it wasn’t as sexualized. Then again, I guess that is just Grande’s style. Anyway, I really hope that Grande continues the one-a-year streak that has been going on for a while, and now that I am all caught up with her albums, hopefully we have reached the point where her music style changes a bit. (Adult or older teen) Fans of pop will appreciate this album, as well as Grande’s fanbase. I look forward to listening to Grande’s next release whenever it comes out, and hopefully she will establish an album winning streak building off of Positions. Highlights: just like magic, safety net, my hair, west side, positions, obvious, pov, and worst behavior.

Awesome album. Ariana grande showed her talent once again. POV is probably the best song from this album. Positions Deluxe is definitely worth the 10/10 rating

Definitely not her best piece of work, especially compared to her previous album Thank U, Next. There are several standout tracks amongst the lot which I enjoyed immensely, but they were overshadowed by the repetitive and outright boring fillers in the album. Several had awkward and incohesive bridges, choruses or outros, ruining the entire song. A lot of room for improvement and I wishDefinitely not her best piece of work, especially compared to her previous album Thank U, Next. A solid 8. This is probably her 3rd best album after the masterpieces that are sweetener and thank u next.

All the songs sound the same because they’re very short and have intentional poor lyrics. This is just a collection of singles.

Idk why these girls are complaining that she's not showing a normal pop or so. This album is a masterpiece as its own, Ari's voice is angelical amd one of the best voices nowadays.

Ariana Grande's newest studio album came with an amazing vocal chord arrangement. What makes this album even more special is the whistle notes recorded on more than one song! It's an album with some tracks to keep you cool and some to stay up all night. In general, what makes it good is the appreciation of the potential of the Aryan singer, 10.

As an Ariana Grande fan for a long time, I think I can be honest about her music. I really loved the Sweetener and Thank u, next era but after those massive albums, I'm a bit sad, listening to Positions. I could not rate any of the songs 10/10, but positions and pov are at a very strong 9.5. All. Of the rest are below, between 6 and 9, but my calculations resulted a total of 7.85 rate. Esperaba mas del album, pero a excepcion de la cancion de POV no me gusta ninguna, las letras son repetitivas, lo que no tendria nada de malo si la produccion fuera buena pero no. Su peor album hasta la fecha

In my view, this is the worst album by Ariana. I was expecting for this album for something better; I dislike the songwriting, talks much about s*x. Mostly about s*x, and I don’t like those songs that contain those lyrics. The production of the songs are almost the same. I just liked one of the songs, which is pov. It’s the most meaningful one. Expand

I really love Ari and her past five albums, but for the first time the production feels so.. rash. It gives us some bops like positions and pov, of course. but the rest of the album needs better work to put

Grande is making no effort to be discreet, instead explicitly owning her sexuality—the album is called Positions, after all. The juxtaposition of beautiful violin sounds and risqué lyrics has become one of Grande’s signature sounds, and it suits her well.

Grande laid bare may well be seen as a stopgap in her canon, using taboo to checkmate her past trauma, but it does pull off the rare feat of at least sounding effortless.

With little conflict and few psychological insights, Positions zeroes in on the enviable confidence that only pop stars on top of the world and with nothing to lose can afford. It's easy to write it off as empty calories, but pop has always been described in such terms: cake, candy, chocolate, confection. Positions isn't a "sweetener" but pure sugar.
