MojoFeb 27, 2018The result is an album that goes far beyond emulation or pastiche to capture the emotional heart of a strange and elusive film, soaring from rapturous highs to quiet, introspective lows, vital romantic life undercut by a melancholy twilight sadness. [Apr 2018, p.89]
-
Feb 5, 2018Phantom Thread is voyeurism, the eyes of an auteur burned onto rare old film stock, and needing of a soundtrack to dance along with it through the ballroom of imagination. Jonny Greenwood was equal to the task with musical accompaniment that doesn't just take your breath away, it steals it, leaving you gasping in reverence.
-
UncutFeb 16, 2018His most classically minded, complementing the film's setting with its own opulent old=world beauty. [Apr 2018, p.27]
-
Feb 15, 2018It is rich and gorgeous, elegant because of its exacting nature, an aesthetic that suits the film to a T.
-
Q MagazineFeb 13, 2018The result is uniformly deft, sumptuous and moving. [Apr 2018, p.110]

Feb 5, 2018Greenwood’s previous PTA scores provided feral atmosphere first and foremost, or in Inherent Vice’s case, a convex take on classic Hollywood film noir incidental music. Phantom Thread’s score, on the other hand, feels like another main character or storytelling voice in the film. Greenwood’s abilities have never served one of Anderson’s films better, or proved so integral to its power.

Feb 5, 2018There is much to enjoy here and if you have the slightest interest in contemporary classical music or you’re a soundtrack buff, give this a whirl. Jonny Greenwood may be one of those scruffy oiks in a pop group, but he’s proved once again that there is an incredibly musical mind under the haircut.
-
Feb 20, 2018While Phantom Thread may offer the most straight-forward narrative of Anderson’s career, Greenwood gives listeners a reason to keep digging, thus furthering the life of a film that questions the importance of legacy and what ultimately lasts.
-
Feb 5, 2018As a standalone suite of songs, like a tuxedo you only dust off every now and then, it is beautiful, but only appropriate when the occasion demands it.

Another great work from Jonny Greenwood. -
Jun 1, 2020Masterpiece. One of the best soundtracks ever made. But also, considered just as a modern classical music album, pure beauty.
