The WireJul 12, 2018What’s exceptional about Novelist Guy is the ease with which he remakes grime in his own image, gifting it a breadth and charm and appeal others have struggled for over a decade to synthesize. [Jun 2018, p.62]
-
Apr 16, 2018Grime is now a maturing genre, with room for a multiplicity of voices and subject matters. And in Novelist, grime now has an upstanding and versatile outlier.
-
Apr 13, 2018Every sentiment on Novelist Guy is deeply felt.

MixmagJul 6, 2018As you might guess, it’s not all fun and games, but there’s bone-dry lyrical wit and absolute clarity of voice (no guest spots!)--and its understanding of bleep and bass tonality gives it instant appeal. [May 2018, p.116]
-
Apr 13, 2018It seems as if Novelist made the album he wanted to make, despite the external pressures, and gave us a project which is sonically, socio-politically and unapologetically grime.
-
Apr 23, 2018Novelist Guy remains a very promising debut from a young artist who has already placed himself at the forefront of grime’s equally promising future.
-
Apr 13, 2018Nov Wait Stop Wait pays homage to Rebound X’s iconic Rhythm and Gash grime instrumental, and the radio skit (Nov B2B DeeCee) is a nostalgic revisiting of pirate radio sessions, but there are points, like on Gangster, when songs feel unfinished, taking a while to draw us in. Overall, though, this is a confident salute to a scene still rich in talent.
