To describe it as the best Strokes-related work since 2003’s Room On Fire might be damning it with faint praise: better to say simply that this is one of the year’s most easily-overlooked gems.

Some of the most accessible and personal music of Hammond, Jr.'s career with or without the Strokes.

Spry and spontaneous sounding. [Sep 2015, p.87]

It's difficult not to be beguiled by Momentary Masters and impressed at its rich colours and ease of flow--the sound of a man carving out his own niche both musically and personally after several previous stumbling starts.

For an album reportedly inspired by Carl Sagan, the 10-song, 36-minute Momentary Masters is remarkably lean and focused.

Despite the pristine production and supercharged atmosphere, this feels like his most personal set and where the music falls into more predictable territory, it's kept buoyant by Hammond's emotional warmth and his wistful, contemplative lyrics.

Albert Hammond Jr. has a solid album on his hands, but it is what it is: Momentary Masters isn’t veal, but a damn fine cheeseburger.

An instantly likable, energetic pop set stacked with guitars; his easy voice shot through with enquiry and regret. [Sep 2015, p.75]

Momentary Masters is his most satisfying, cohesive record yet, and, in many ways, his most personal.

Healthy living and hearty curiosity have inspired some lively rock songs, but being Albert Hammond Jr. still sounds pretty stressful.

Side Boob and Razor’s Edge don’t even bother with the middle men, heading straight for the infectious propulsion of Is This It. Elsewhere, however, Hammond makes a creditable stab at the sunny nonchalance of Mac DeMarco, while a crunching Arctic Monkeys riff underpins Caught By My Shadow.

Albert Hammond Jr. packs his third solo disc with the band's signature crisp melodies, curt guitar churn and New Wave synth ripple. As a singer and lyricist, though, Hammond has an openhearted, somewhat quizzical mien that's a far cry from the Strokes' poker-faced chic.

Momentary Masters is a big beast with swagger in its bones and craft in its soul. [Sep 2015, p.110]

This is a charming album without spirit. Hammond’s singing is pedestrian at best and his writing often dry.

The spiky guitars and stiff, jerky rhythms signal a dedication to his old band’s sound that is commendably faithful, if ultimately tiresome.

Each song is catchy, and almost invokes that classic "strokes" feeling you get from Is This It and Room on Fire. Fast, guitar licks that will get stuck in your head for hours. Lyrics that you will love to sing along to. This album is absolutely fantastic. Full Review »

Every now and then while listening I thought: 'Is this the guy from Placebo now doing solo?'
Anyway the album is good and although the artist doesn't stand out it is going into my "rainy days" playlist. It has cheer up qualities despite the melancholic vocals.
