The best pop album of the year so far. The lyricism, the production, the melodies, the MUSIC. This is what pop music has been missing this year and Lorde comes back to give the children this amazing meal. Amazing.

Lorde, Lorde, Lorde. What a beautiful masterpiece you have produced. Melodrama is pop perfection, and one of the best albums released so far this year. Green Light, Sober, Liability and Perfect Places were great tasters of what the album was to offer and we are not disappointed. Lorde has matured as an artist and this is an extreme step up from 2013 debut 'Pure Heroine'.

Story line comes through the all compositions and that's made the concept. And this is insane how young girl without huge army of songwriters and producers can make such a great work.

She's only 20 years old, but she creates one of the best and deepest album I've ever heard. Love you, Ella ♥

Melodrama is without a doubt the best album released on this year, Its is melancholic and so strong at the same time, something really hard to create, but so enjoyable and unforgettable.

AOTY is coming.

A very cohesive and well-arranged album. It deserves all the acclaims it's been getting so far. Despite the album being great as a whole, there are not many stand-out tracks or single-worthy songs that you would enjoy listening on the radio. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Following her breakthrough success with Pure Heroine, New Zealand's brilliant Ella O'Connor delivers the second chapter of her career that looks promising. Through "Melodrama," the singer presents us with a darker and somewhat passionate side of her person. After releasing an album with no romantic lyrics and only adventures of ordinary teenagers, Lord returns to being common with a message beginning and ending a post-relationship, experienced by the composer herself a few years ago. Beginning with Green Light, her first single and also considered one of the best songs of the year, Ella reveals her weaknesses as a human being and opens the door to her best compositions through love, pain, loss and fear. The Homemade Dynamite range reaches one of the high points in a warm and cozy way. In addition to the four previously released tracks, we are presented with another 7 new songs that make up an album that would have everything to be simplistic were it not for the perfection exhibited by the performer during the little more than forty minutes of the performance. We still doubt who will be one of the top Grammy winners next year? Expand

Compared with her first album "Pure Heroine" ,this one narrows its theme but makes it deeper, focusing on the youth spirits of this age—confused, lonely as well as meaningless roar for being valued, which can resonate with us more. Lorde delivers those things to us with the catchy rhythm, amazing harmonic and characteristic vocal, all of which is familiar but bends the formula in surprising ways.
No question, she is the drama queen.

Without a doubt the best pop album of 2017 and it might stay that way as good as it is. Crisp, picture perfect production in every track coupled with truly exceptional songwriting/pop lyrics that do her generation justice, in originality and infectiousness. You know an album is truly something special when the lead single isn't even the best track on the album. I wouldn't bother trying to pick which track(s) are the best, they're all remarkable. It's best just to enjoy the album from front to back skipping nothing, probably with your headphones on in a dark room.
Katy Perry should take notes, along with any other professed pop diva or queen. Just like that, within 40 minutes, Lorde becomes my favorite pop artist in the business today. Not only that, but maybe the greatest youngest artist I listen to. Nas' illmatic released at the tender age of 19 probably still ranks as the best, but this album at 20 is perhaps just as impressive. I never remember ever being so caught off guard by an artist's sophomore release. I had my hopes and expectations for something good, but I did not expect to be blown away by a modern pop masterpiece. Credit has to be given to producer Jack Antonoff who has truly outdone himself along with his lead artist. Kudos to the other guest producers as well (Flume, S1).
I guess I should clarify what this album is and what this album isn't. Is this the greatest album of the decade? No. That still belongs to Kanye IMO. Time will tell where this ranks when this decade is all said and done. Is it the greatest female pop album of the decade? Debatable. I still give the nod to Queen Bey and her genre crushing Lemonade, but this album can't be too far behind. Is it album of the year? Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. would like to have a word with you. Is it the most SHOCKINGLY impressive release so far this year? I say yes. Does it deserve all the pop Grammy awards this year? As it stands now, yes.
This year to date, "Liability" is the most emotionally moving track I have heard, and that's saying something. Though as stated before the production is immaculate throughout, I like the double-track song "Hard Feelings/Loveless" and "Sober II (Melodrama)" as prime examples of it. And "Perfect Places" sounds like a massive victory lap for her as the album's closing track.
At a moment in time where I began to question whether I could enjoy anything anymore and where younger generations were headed, Ella or Lorde swept in for the strongest, most refreshing form of reassurance I couldn't imagine that not all hope was lost. With lyrics well beyond her years and focused production to boot, Lorde becomes a new torch-holder for an entire generation. Even more respectable is that she could easily have rested on her laurels, being in the pop genre, and released a safe project that would have sold high numbers regardless, but clearly Lorde has loftier ambitions for herself and she should pat herself on the back for this one and rest assured it was a job well done and she hit her mark in spades. With a big tour to go along with it all I'm sure Lorde won't rest, but she really should and enjoy/bask in all the glory/recognition/acclaim/awards this album truly deserves.

    Favorite lyrics:
"Blowing **** up with homemade dynamite"
"Broadcast the boom boom boom boom, make 'em all dance to it"
"They say, "You're a little much for me, you're a liability"
"Bet you wanna rip my heart out
Bet you wanna skip my calls now
Well guess what? I like that
‘Cause I’m gonna mess your life up
Gonna wanna tape my mouth shut
    Look out, lovers
    We’re L.O.V.E.L.E.S.S
    Generation"
"We told you this was melodrama
You wanted something that we offer"
"All of the things we're taking
'Cause we are young and we're ashamed
    Send us to perfect places
    All of our heroes fading
Now I can't stand to be alone
    Let's go to perfect places"

Well constructed and with an incredible concept, Lorde really stepped up from her previous releases. The way some tracks blend with the other and some Greenlight notes you can hear on Supercut make the album something to listen from start to end, never skipping a track. Her best work so far, and one of the best albums this year. Shortly saying: David Bowie was right.

David Bowie: "Lorde is the future of music"
In her sophomore project Lorde explores the emotional journey and aftermath of a house party after a hurtful and emotionally draining break up and presents what is to be the Album of The Year. On a new level of lyrical maturity -- and progression from her debut Pure Heroine -- Lorde sings about the hurting, the partying, the liberation, the one-night stands, the reminiscing, self-care and the perpetual longing for closure and happiness along catchy and yet often melancholic and ecstatic melodies. This record makes you want to dance by yourself on the streets and simultaneously cry in your room alone. The way Lorde deals with solitude from a musical and poetic standpoint is not only beyond her age but also extraordinarily cohesive, differentiated and multidimensional and surpasses all of her pop-contemporaries. You have to listen to this. It is exquisite.

The rhythms and melodies were new and fresh, and completely filled with emotion and some kind of contained bomb of rage and pain, that, with a lonely dance move, could blow up a heart.
