His second EP after a Young Turks-released four-tracker of 2010, does a lot with little: three tracks contain vocals, but each hits a sweet spot with incredible accuracy, doing in a few minutes what some bands take an album to deliver.

His new EP, Meantime, is an unabashedly beautiful, even sensuous 17 minutes of music.

The worst thing I can say about an EP is that it's too damn short, it's certainly a success.

This is a proud statement that is only hampered by its length and obfuscation. [Jun 2012, p.161]

Even with only four songs, Meantime displays a mastery of subtle variation, achieving sonic complexity through the repetition, layering, and balance of disparate rhythms and textures.
  6. Kwes' voice underwhelms throughout, as if he's embarrassed by his own singing, and he ends up underselling the songs into which he's put so much effort.

[The last] three songs better illustrate what Kwes. is capable of as a producer and musician, falling somewhere between Thundercat and James Blake, in a cool blend of downtempo, dubstep, and R&B.

The lyrics here are trite and the melodies saccharine.
