Sure, Matter is boozy brunch music, but it’s probably the best brunch record ever made.

St. Lucia's splendid synth-pop allure has instant pop catchiness, but Grobler's willingness to wear his lyrics' romantic motivations like a badge of honor gives Matter a thrilling extra jolt.

While Grobler's music often bursts with light, frivolous energy, this album has an undertone of dissatisfaction that's new.

It’s a shame that St. Lucia’s work is riddled by persistently criminal overproduction and weak moments.

There's relatively no atmosphere and groove this time around, and many of the songs seem forced, as if he's tried to ensure this one goes mainstream.

The world Grobler crafts on Matter isn’t colored with the iridescent shades of blue from his early career; it is now a palate so bright and garish that it hurts the eyes.

    Insanely energetic.

It's a non-stop dance. Felt like my body was on fire through the whole album.

Such a disappointing follow-up to When the Night, which might have been my favorite album of 2013. Matter sounds like a straight 80's popSuch a disappointing follow-up to When the Night, which might have been my favorite album of 2013. Matter sounds like a straight 80's pop album and lost the edginess, moodiness and urgency (think September) that made When the Night such a cool and unique listen. Home is the one song that comes close to recreating that experience, but I'm just not feeling it otherwise. Full Review »

Love this band, is like going back in the eighties with songs like "Home" (from this album) or When the Night (from When The Night). Full Review »
