Segall is all over the place across these 19 tracks which are too much to absorb in one sitting, if ever. Most of his carefree pastiches, bonhomie homages and sloppy costume-party shenanigans merely induce a craving for the long-awaited studio comeback of the mighty Ween.

While Freedom’s Goblin doesn’t exactly blow the doors off of his usual sound, it’s a solid addition to the canon that rattles between all corners of this self-made niche.

I've probably listened to 5+ Ty Segall albums simply because he's come up on some critic's list. And every time I've been disappointed. I justI've probably listened to 5+ Ty Segall albums simply because he's come up on some critic's list. And every time I've been disappointed. I just couldn't get it. I was done with Ty after Freedom's Goblin. This was it, my last attempt, I had done my due diligence and given him every chance possible. Finally I could say, "Ty just doesn't do it for me and that's alright...I've given him every chance possible." You know how that story goes, right?

Just one listen and I finally get it. Maybe I have to revisit all those albums I didn't get.

Needless to say, don't sell Ty short. Give him the chance he deserves and you might be presently surprised.
