Decidedly mature and unapologetically soulful, Float is one of the most important records of this young year. [Apr 2008, p.148]
  2. With Float they’ve delivered another strong album that is more assured than their other records, and offers a hopeful energy.

It's the band's most diverse album yet—and, diversity being their strength, it's also their most accomplished.
  4. Most of the time, however, the band's blazing energy and instrumental swagger is able to lift your spirits despite the depressing subject matter.
  5. Float is rescued from abject tedium by the deep, poetic lure of the subject matter and a couple of genuinely outstanding compositions in ‘Float’ and ‘(No More) Paddy’s Lament.’

Thier relentless pursuit of "the craic" is wearing, evocative song titles not hiding the fact Dublin-native Dave King's lyrics lack the romanticism of Shane MacGowan. [June 2008, p.138]

not their best, so far that's Within a Mile from home, but still some great songs: Requiem for a dying song, (No more) paddy's not their best, so far that's Within a Mile from home, but still some great songs: Requiem for a dying song, (No more) paddy's lament, lighning storm & betwen a man and a woman. The rest is still good but it seems a "softer" album, more turbo folk than folk-punk (that's not bad, but lees flogging molly than pogues) see this band live and even songs that may not work so well on the album will suddenly make sense. Floging molly are an awesome live beast. Full Review »

Flogging Molly has been poplar with younger people who don't really know that these guys n girls are in their late 30s and early 40s. Flogging Molly has been poplar with younger people who don't really know that these guys n girls are in their late 30s and early 40s. This album shows their age and maturity. It is probably the best yet. Still energetic but not nearly as much as the older stuff. I loved it. Full Review »
