Delightful pure pop. It sounds sweet and lush . Like all of Monae albums it tells a larger conceptual story that reflects some real life problem through an afro futuristic lense. This is the least serious out of the series and instead seeks to revel in the joy of self discovery. The Brian Wilson feature is a big deal and continues her streak (see: Prince,Erykah& Big boi).

Overall, a solid album. There are a couple bangers, a lot of songs that are pretty good, and some ok songs. There aren't any songs that are horrendously bad or anything like that. If you like Janelle Monae already, it's a must-buy, but I don't consider it to be like ~the album of the century~ by any means.

Jannelle Monáe puts again the level really high with this incredibly complete album. 'Dirty Computer' will not fail to shine by its complexity, its diversity and its unsuspected depth. There even are some interesting interpolations between songs of this project and Janelle's last albums.

With her amazing voice Janelle manages to cleverly tackle some raw political and identity problems in today's society. She futhermore successfully does it by approaching varied musical genres. Until the end, she maintains an original approach while admitting her uncertainty about the choices she makes. This does not prevent her to deliver impressive and confident lyrics is 'I Like That' among other. Meaningful presences of guests help her to switch the moods of her songs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dirty Computer was one of the best albums of 2018. It has definitely aged well with themes of empowerment , love, racial equality and sex at the center. The lyricism, production, choruses, melodies, raps, hooks and vocals are just amazing on this album. The diverse production ranging from RnB, POP ROCK, FUNK, SOUL , synthpop and Hip Hop is amazing. Every song is a highlight in one way or another. My favorites are Crazy, Classic Life,, Screwed, Django Jane, Pynk, Make me feel, I like that, don't judge me, So Afraid and Americans. Not forgetting that Janelle proves to be a formidable vocalist and rapper on this album. Expand

Some great songs on here, every song is definitely unique, but I didn’t love all of them. Overall I would definitely give it another listen some time and I’m excited for Janelle’s future projects she is definitely a star in the making. She’s like a modern day Prince almost.

Pure artistry from Janelle, yet again! Dirty Computer is a breath of fresh air every time I re-listen. Lyrically it's amazing and sonically it's tight and consistently sounds fresh. An incredible listen!

We’re lucky to live in the same time as this woman. Janelle Monáe is one of a kind. Her voice speaks for many and her talent amazes us all. Dirty Computer is a special pop record. I’m not gonna review it properly, just listen to Django Jane. That song is everything.

A cohesive political and surprising project, full of intriguing melodies and lyrics. Sometimes, those melodies don't build up to something better, or even something you expected. The rap parts are a highlight on this album. Well done.

Such a masterpiece. Pharrell's best work to do, and the songs — it's so good, I think I'm out of the world. My favorite songs are "I Like That" & "Screwed". I'll be so happy if 'Dirty Computer' wins Album of the Year at the GRAMMYs!

A maior qualidade de Dirty Computer é a forma direta como dialoga com seu tempo. Mesmo com o alto teor político, Janelle Monáe consegue fazer um funk-pop capaz de divertir.

Here, Prince's protégé collaborates with Brian Wilson, Pharrell Williams and more to deliver a cohesive project with stunning vocals, upbeat production and confident lyrics. These lyrics cover a plethora of important themes & topics, which range from racism and feminism, to freedom and power through sexuality. However, there are certain lyrical content/messages that occasionally feel so on-the-face that they can momentarily pull you out of the music.

Overall, it's ambitous, and it feels iconic. It's energetic. It's sexy. It has a vibe. It pulls you into a precisely-orchestrated musical world. It calls back to the 80's whilst simultaneously feeling futuristic - also, the accompanying short film is really great.

The artwork is one of the best album covers that I have ever seen, and my top tracks from this project are: 'Dirty Computer', 'I Like That', 'Django Jane' and 'So Afraid'. I would rate this album 8/10.

Bar the odd interesting sample and collaboration the music is straightforward pop, easily digested with little lasting satisfaction. Lyrically it's a bit all over the shop. Lots of talk about sex but more for the sake of it than to make any particular point about liberation etc ( I got the juice wtf???) in the vein of St Vincent's "Masseduction".

This is a splendid break-into-the-mainstream album, since it's both sassy and vulnerable, it claims respect for women, black people and the LGBT yet it also invites you to dance.

One of the best albums to come out this year, Dirty Computer manages to blend a wide variety of styles but is at the same time a cohesive story about her experiences as a queer black woman. Her vocal timbre, the production, the songwriting, everything just CLICKS.

Janelle Monáe is a pop artist that deserves to listened to with too much attention. Here you can abstract excellent bass lines and rhythm sections, fresh and dancing harmonic lines in a kind of Prince's modern sonority with a sense of more palpable accessibility. You can't deny that's one of the year's album, if not is.

Janelle Monáe can't release bad album, she always do her best. Dirty Computer is example. Masterpiece with genius idea must have any nominations in general categories at Grammy 2019. Without a doubt, I can say that Dirty Computer is album of the year.

Hints of Michael Jackson's melodic moonwalking lace in the type of hip-hop ennui that will appeal to fans of Solange's A Seat at the Table, plus a sexy swagger of feminist liberation that screams 2018.

After navigating complex matrices of identity under an indulgent, accessible veneer, Dirty Computer is ultimately--even “simply”--a cathartic assertion of self in a hostile system.
