Cohen’s sound checks, as lengthy as the shows, where he’d experiment with old songs and try out new ones, were celebrated by insiders, and the three examples here are among the highlights: a remarkable Field Commander Cohen, like a four-and-a-half-minute operetta; a cover of George Jones’ Choices (gorgeous fiddle); and a new Cohen original, up-tempo blues Got A Little Secret.

The fourth live album to come out of Leonard Cohen's 2008-2013 world tour is a fascinating glimpse into his creative process.

It's a treat to hear Cohen so comfortable in both his old and new skins. [No. 121, p.53]

Good as his bandmates are, on Can't Forget, Cohen is the star, and he's as strong, as witty, and as willing to lay himself emotionally bare as ever; it's anyone's guess how much longer he intends to keep going, but there's nothing here to suggest he needs or wants to quit now.

The appeal of this latest Cohen live offering hinges on a brace of more rarely performed tracks--Joan of Arc as a too-sweet duet with Hattie Webb; the lyrically dense Field Commander Cohen--sweetened by two new songs and two new covers.
  6. Cohen vocals frequently sound more robust than they do in the studio, which is a surprise.... Still, it’s the band that gives the tracks the most animation.

Seemingly compiled by the toss of a coin, Can't forget is a hotch-potch of old staples, two new songs and two covers. [Jun 2015, p.102]
