After Dark 2 is a confirmation of his prowess and vision. It is proof and testament that the reignited flame of Italo-disco can endure through the tempests of shifting tastes.

Mostly, the music works together more than it works to distinguish itself, always pushing movement and progression into the forefront in a sort of peaceful acceptance of chaos and uncertainty.

Despite these minor blips and the fact that being a ‘compilation’ it perhaps lacks the cohesive, emotional narrative arc of Kill for Love, AD2 is still an atomic display of IDIB’s firepower.

The things setting After Dark 2 below its older brother is that it's not quite as fun—the darker tracks dominate this one—and that it doesn't flow together as well, which is an issue here primarily because many listeners will be hearing it in the form of a single, 78-minute MP3 file. But that's nitpicking.

Like blues, the disco formula works--it’s both beautiful and timeless (well, timeless since the late 70s). But it doesn’t always feel as fresh as it once did--paradoxically, given the heavy-lidded sensibility the music embodies.
