Sep 23, 2022The combination of open heart and open road -- there's no other place the stomping "Black Widow" would sound better -- makes Denim & Diamonds a remarkable record.
-
Sep 22, 2022First High and Born Tough seek out her adolescence, while the title track and Black Widow stress her continuing defiance. This girl is not just following the satnav. She's older, but wilfully no wiser. [Oct 2022, p.73]
-
MojoSep 22, 2022This harder edge suggests a long, bounteous road into the future. [Nov 2022, p.93]
-
Sep 26, 2022Lane’s most compelling songs come out of her acknowledgements of imperfection and her impertinence toward the status quo.
-
Sep 22, 2022She closes, rather surprisingly with the flamenco guitar-driven acoustic tune, “Chimayo,” revealing the nuances of her vocals, which can go almost instantly from sultry seductive tones to window-rattling power. It’s a surprisingly great touch, and at least for this writer, is the kind of tune we’d like to have heard more of on this eclectic effort.
-
Sep 22, 2022It shows Nikki Lane at her best, stepping towards a darker direction while keeping one foot planted in the country and roots music of her past.
-
Sep 26, 2022So sentimental and lyrical the whole thing is, and its content remains forthright and honest throughout. It is, indeed, a gratifying holistic experience.
