Where it takes mechanics from others in the industry, it improves upon them; where it introduces new ones, you slap your forehead in amazement that it hasn’t been done before. Breath of the Wild is development done right, and damn near the best game you’ll play all year.
Breath of the Wild doesn’t feel like an experiment for the Zelda series, it feels like the realization of what Zelda always wanted to be. It easily stands toe-to-toe with the best open world games of the generation, and is a marvelous way to introduce a brand new system. Whether you’re a Zelda fan or not, this is certainly an experience you should not miss out on.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is just the best game of its generation. Only The Witcher 3 can compete with it. But it's for a narrower audience of players. The game is a real System Seller, I just went and bought an unnecessary (as it seemed to me at that moment) Nintendo Switch just for this game. Although I haven't even played in previous games in the series. Perfect gameplay that works according to the same laws of physics. There is not one mechanic that is used only once. Excellent graphics, given the power of the Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game in which you spend more than 200 hours and do not notice. The best game of 2017.
Breath of the Wild’s only tangible constraint is how creative the player can be at any given moment. The game is genuinely challenging, with secrets and rewards to be found around every corner. As you play, the staggering amount of ways in which you can interact with Hyrule naturally reveal themselves. There is always something new to discover, but at your own pace. Somehow, the adventure never loses momentum over dozens of hours of exploration, the inspired design holds up, making for an unmistakable Zelda game that completely changes everything expected from the series. After spending so much time with Breath of the Wild, it is already hard to imagine going back to the antiquated presentation of the past.
I was entranced by this version of Hyrule, and it surprised me at nearly every turn, from its wealth of discoveries to the way it shuns the established tropes of previous Zelda games. It represents a profound new direction for one of gaming’s best franchises and a new high point for open-world interactive experiences.
For any gamer that views Ocarina of Time as the highlight of the franchise, Breath of the Wild is a very pleasant surprise. The innovations Nintendo offers are -nearly all- amazing and Hyrule is more appealing and grandiose than ever before.
Everything about this game is perfect. The combat, the freedom, the weapons, the clothes, the tutorial area and so much more. But the thing that makes this game truly the best game of all time is the atmosphere, the vibe you feel while playing it. I get goosebumps everytime I watch the trailer. Everytime I end with a session of this game, i just can’t wait to start again and explore just a littlebit more of the massive world. I always wonder what the other areas in the game look like. It has also great music. It’s also the music wich gives the games that atmosphere. People are hating on the Hyrule field theme for being “too simple”, but they just don’t get it. This game is about exploring a world that crumbled, and the music give exactly the atmosphere of a beautiful, mysterious, sometimes a little bit scary world. I like playing the themes on the piano with my favorite being of course the main theme. It gives me goosebumps everytime. The art style is also beautiful with graphics that are just right. Props to nintendo for making this amazing game on the fricking SWITCH. The switch has the same power of the ps3, and they managed to make a perfect game out of it. I just can’t stop talking on how perfect this game is. This is the best game of all time, and a must-play for everyone. 10/10
I mean it’s a decent time, but temper your expectations if you go into this believing the GOTY hype. The land is unique although bland and repetitive, the story is fine, the combat is solid. This is a game that should be played, but nowhere near living up to the hype.
These new Zeldas arent Zelda games. They are generic open world RPGs with a Zelda skin slapped on. The weapon breaking systems are terrible. There is no iconic characters or music the way there was in the older titles. Its just so watered down and unfortunately glazed to oblivion.
Personally, I say I'm giving Breath of the Wild the benefit of the doubt it would be a 2 or a 3 if this wasnt a great game. Honestly I'd consider this a 9 or a 10 if it didn't pretend to be Zelda.
In my opinion, one of, if not Zelda's lowest point. And I've been an avid Zelda fan since Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask. Also, no this is not just nostalgia calling. I have played Breath of the Wild more than four times now and I still haven't been able to capture what I felt when I first played it.
Breath of the Wild is fun for a first time playthrough but the open world aspect dies out the moment you explore each corner of the map and realize it's just another Korok or just another shrine. The Divine Beast boss battles were fun and the Blight Ganons were different. And heck even I liked the DLC but those things don't make a Zelda experience, do they?
And look I'm all down for customizable link and open world and all that. But come on if your going to plaster Zelda's name on it at least make it feel somewhat like Zelda. This new format has something, but it needs to be seriously refined.
