    McCartney on his own is classic in every sense of the word, when it comes to rock. Songwriter and musician-this project was long over due. There are some big names that contribute-most of whom really make his songs work for them without losing the feel of Paul's original sound/song.

    If only the others brought aboard were extended as much freedom to do something other than trace outlines over the contours of this familiar canon.

    This 42-song blowout has everything from Willie Nelson doing a raggedly loving "Yesterday" to Billy Joel crushing "Maybe I’m Amazed." There are plenty of surprises, too.
