Suffice it to say that the tension ratchets up beautifully, whether through enlightening arguments between the brothers, or through the same skillful editing and cinematography that Benson and Moorhead have exhibited in their past efforts.
If you have a good idea, a strong cast, a smart script, and directorial chops, you don't need a lot of money to make a compelling movie. The Endless is proof.

Benson and Moorhead’s sophisticated sci-fi/horror features minimal SFX but more ideas than a TED talk. Uncanny, and uncannily good.
The Endless is a demanding, rewarding picture with moments of unusual terror and awe, offering a science fiction/horror scenario on a literally cosmic scale which boils down to a study of a complicated sibling relationship.
In The Endless, Moorhead and Benson show how sustained paranoia and foreboding can keep an audience hooked as effectively as special effects.
Benson and Moorhead masterfully ratchet up the sense of unease, before the third act takes a turn for the truly terrifying.
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead veer away from the deeper, even meta-cinematic, implications of their plotting.
Incredible! I think the less you know going in the more you will enjoy this film.

Good, low-budget UFO death cult movie. More of a vibe than a story but the setting and performances are solid.

Wow. This was just one big confusing, convoluted mess of randomness. The first half wasn't too thrilling. It was hard to stay awake, but I kept watching. In some weird way, this bizarre flick found a way to continuously catch my interest just enough for me to hang on, although I just gave up trying to figure out what was going on around the 40 minute mark. After that, I was just watching it for the sake of watching it.

No Spoilers-- I'm a film buff and I love complex, intelligently scripted cinema. This is not that. It's an interesting concept, but one that will likely fall flat with most viewers. The concept is intriguing, but not very fleshed out. The character development is quite thin, and most of the scenes are boring. It's very similar in execution to Looper, in that it thinks it's a smarter movie than it really is. I really do not recommend the time to watch this, unless if you're watching it by yourself and curious (it's on Netflix), or you were a fan of Looper. I imagine all the top reviews are from people who enjoyed that film, but, and I stress, this is a very nice group of viewers that you are probably not a part of.
A great alternative: Annihilation with Natalie Portman. Also on Netflix! Or if you want something "genre defying", try Upgrade. Both are cerebral and very entertaining, neither of which are qualities I would give The Endless.
