It often feels like Flatliners is trapped between multiple genres without knowing exactly what kind of movie it wants to be, and the result is a confused mess.
While the talented cast...do as well as can be expected with the (excuse the weak pun) pretty flat script, this remake likely will be all but forgotten shortly after it hits multiplexes this weekend.
This movie kept me hooked for 2 hours. Absolutely gripping and a very good premise. Honestly all the bad reviews show the underlying racism; there’s too many ethnic looking characters in this movie. Thank god someone is finally pushing the boundaries.
A fascinating film and a fascinating plot. Remarkably chosen actor's composition. Very interesting story. Beautiful shooting. On a ten-point scale, I put nine out of ten. Because the film really captures the whole picture. The actor's game was on top.
Mr. Schumacher’s movie is more a failed tone poem than a horror picture, and to its credit, this new version, with a trickier script by Ben Ripley and hyper-competent direction from the Swedish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev improves on it — by making it behave like a horror movie every now and then.
I'm dumbfounded by the idea of remaking a movie that was no damn good in the first place. Is it the possibility of making it better? The exact opposite happens with Flatliners.
this movie was Absolutely good don't understand why people don't like it! This is like one of the best movies of 2017! Love it so much i couLD watch it 100 times!
Here we go another scary remake for your viewing pleasure, a tale about what lies on the other side of the veil. first and foremost whatever you think this movie is, you hit it on the head, from start to finish its predictable which might i add is not always a bad thing, sometimes the viewer needs to know what is going to happen especially in complex stories, alas this is not a complex story.
the main premise of this remake is the main character Courtney (Played by Ellen Page) accidentally killed her younger sister in a car accident, nine years later she is the most unprofessional med student in a hospital I've ever seen, she asks a patient that has just been brought in "your heart stopped beating for (insert time here), what was that like? did you see a light? a tunnel?" who asks that? where did you learn your bed side manner? the YouTube comment section? moving on, she then tries to recruit other med students (by lying to them) and then talks one of them into killing her with a plan to bring her back, so after that has happened she is able to do amazing things, then the others want their go as well, why? i don't know. i don't really want to die thanks, but you do you. after sometime she starts getting spooked and freaking out, same slowly happens to the others, their guilt manifesting as "Something" (demon, ghost, god no clue they never tell you) after Ellen Page's character has a run in with her dead sister they come to the conclusion they need to apologise for what they did wrong. and that seems to fix things. with a tale of love and loss, and growing as a person they end up being better people for it. this is your run of the mill jump scare movie, down the middle of the road, average, decent, worth the $8AUD i paid (special deal) i think you could skip it or watch it if you really want to go to the movies but nothing is on (like i did) great sit and stare movie, don't think too much about it
The film didn't start out promisingly, but then turned again in the middle only to end boringly. It's a shame, although I can't say whether the film could have been good at all, the whole thing just didn't catch me.
A movie about a bunch of entitled medical students that think they can take shortcuts to a successful career, instead of working for it and facing their own mistakes. Ironically, their bad decisions will force them to face their past.
The idea of killing yourself to study what comes after it is... Well what do you think? It's so stupid, so irresponsible and so bizarre... These people are completely unfit to become medical doctors. They even think (and act) as if it makes them edgy and smart. Suddenly some characters even start talking like 5 year olds when some of the group don't agree, telling them to leave if they don't like it. Great writing...
Then comes the horror part, which is even less convincing and lazy. The horror amounts to nothing more than jump scares, distorted voices and stares. As for the actors, someone should have told them how normal human beings behave because they all act like drugged, smug brats. It was dumb, it was not scary, it wasn't entertaining to watch and it hasn't got a grain of logic to it. I give this movie a 3/10 it is a bad movie.
