    This thing is good!

Kanye's production has always been catchy and original, and in "Ye" it shows once again with hard-hitting but soothing and soulful samples throughout the whole album. All of the seven tracks feel like they have a personality of their own. Lyrically and production wise there's not a moment that feels like filler just to make the album longer. I really appreciate it.

Obviously not everyone's going to like every track on the album necessarily, but it's undeniable that Kanye is confident when it comes to his craft, and a lot of effort has gone in here. Great stuff!

Great album, say what you want about Kanye West but he does have talent.

Not on the same level of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy but still a great album full of DRAGON ENERGY by Kanye.

"All killer, no filler" is how Anthony Fantano described this album. I'd agree. Pretty much every track ranges from good to great. The production is kind of all over the place but, I still enjoy it overall.

More consistent than TLOP and more perosnal than Yeezus, Kanye opens up about his mental health issues and more on this personal, extremely well produced 7 track album. It might be a bit underwhelming, and feautures one of his worse songs (All Mine), but still Ghost Town and Violent Crimes makes up for all of that and Yikes is also one of his best tracks.

As one that is relatively new to Kanye's music (Yeezus), I found this album lacking in definition, however it makes up for it in it's brevity. Overall an interesting listen and a change of pace from rap albums that have come out recently.

No weak moment just like Pusha T's Daytona. Kanye's production and lyrics are on point throughout. Personal, thoughtful and somewhat conceptual. All the features came through with amazing performances. High while all the songs are flawless, I feel like some are stronger than others. Most notably All Mine and Ghost Town. It’s an album that’s feel like the highest of high to the lowest of Lows. It’s like a bipolar episode. I think it feels rushed and hard to listen to sometimes. But overall it’s raw and powerful and makes you feel his emotion on a very human level.

We now understand that Kanye is dealing with an illness that severely alters his way of thinking and he's not afraid to expose it. Songs like Yikes confronts his feelings about his illness calling it a "super power". Ghost Town is the best track on the album, having a soulful/rock anthem that gets stuck in your head. Although this album is VERY short, each song has its place in it and (as always) has Kanye's fantastic production. None of the tracks feel unnecessary and there's something here for everyone. Only downside I find is the lack of at least one track with some lyrical depth (similar to TLOP at least)

I went from loving the album upon first listen, to thinking it was mediocre, to appreciating it again. It sounds like a more complete and higher quality TLOP to me, which is disappointing to a degree because what makes many of Kanye's albums so good to me is his how he is is constantly changing the sound. This album is very good at showing us the "new Kanye", the Kanye which stands on the edge of insanity and firmly on top of the game. Eight studio albums deep into an already unmatched career, Kanye West still prevails as one of the most ambitious figures in hip-hop in this compact seven-track project. The opening track "I Thought About Killing You" proves to be one of his most vulnerable and exposed songs to date, whereas bops like "Yikes" and "All Me" drive the meat of the project.

HIs first 3 albums and MBDTF are still his best 4 albums, but this is as close as I think I will get to being as good as those 4. It's not as good as those 4, but is definitely close.
Ye isn't his best album, but is on the higher end of his albums. It has its flaws, but has more pros. It's the only reason that I don't think he'd never be able to be as good as he was in the 2000s (and 2010). That takes a bit the credit away off of the song, but it's still great. "Ghost Town and All MIne" are just real radio songs, I dunno what he did on "All mine" but it just works, the fast rap/singing with the bubbly beat. Also, I don't think the replay value for this album is high. I think the tracks are well-produced but also felt like it was rushed at the same time. The production for Pusha T's album is so much better than this album. I feel like his work harder on producing his other artist albums rather than his own. I do enjoy the risk that he took on some of the songs.

The other tracks on the album are filled with strong and funny moments. I think the best tracks on this album are the opening and closing tracks. Also, the track with Kid Cudi gives us a sample on how the album Kid See Ghost will sound. Looking forward to listening to more tracks produced by Kanye. I think the album is well-written but also felt like some moments on this album is so cringy. Some of the lines are so wack while the other is strong. This is a hard project to review because I am still confused about it. It's well-produced but it's not his best, it's probably his worst.

It's a bizarre love song of sorts, again saved by the production. Yikes is good despite some terrible lyrics, and Violent Crimes throws a curveball by ending a fairly reprehensible album (lyrically) on a very sentimental note. More lows than highs in terms of Kanye's vocals and lyrical content, but the production saves this album from being a complete disaster.

It just doesn't stack up to his other three albums this decade. Where Daytona doesn't waste a minute of its short run time, Ye does just that with two exceptions. These songs feel undercooked, and not because of the spare production, which is one of its saving graces.

With only seven tracks and a runtime of 24 minutes, "ye" doesn't feel as all over the places as "The Life of Pablo" did, but maybe that's just because its minimal length doesn't allow it to.
It does, however, feel as unfinished as TLOP at some points. This also shouldn't come as a surprise, and maybe it's part of a so called concept, since the album reportedly was made in just a month.

There are plenty of half-baked ideas and lazy lyrics on here, so one would wish that West for once wouldn't have done justice to his self-imposed deadline (a deadline he'd given himself before even starting on the album).
On the other hand, it's also fascinating to look at this project (can you call this an album?) as the result of a single month, a single, troubled point in time in Wests life and career. He addresses his mental health, his family and the impact his behaviour had on them in standout tracks such as the beautiful "Wouldn't leave".
Unfortunately, there are also plenty of cringeworthy Kanye West lyrics on here. His handling of the TMZ situation seems childish and doesn't add anything useful to the discussion, nor is it funny. It makes the listener feel glad that West doesn't dwell on the whole Trump situation that much. There's also a track about infidelity, which thematically seems a bit ouf of place, as do the bars about drugs on "Yikes".
His lyrics on the closer "Violent Crimes", which is beautifully produced, are heartfelt, but also old-fashioned in their "I-respect-women-now-that-I-have-a-daughter" sentiments. Implying that all men are monsters and his daughter needs protection doesn't help either. Still, it seems very genuine. The track features 070 Shake, a GOOD Music newcomer who also appears on "Ghost Town", another standout track, mostly due to her performance.
Other features include Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla Sign, John Legend, Jeremih, Charlie WIlson and PARTYNEXTDOOR, who delivers a fantastic vocal performance on "Wouldn't Leave".
The opening track is also very interesting: West displays murder fantasies, and it's not quite clear who they're aimed at (his wife? himself?). He delivers a lengthy monologue over a gourgeous, minimalistic piece of production, before he actually starts rapping and the beat switches.
Some might say that this unfocused nature of the lyrics, as well as the minimalistic and unfinished production actually play into the theme of the album. Kanye seems to embrace his fragile mental state, he proclaims his bipolar-disorder, which he was supposedly diagnosed with, as his "super power". Others might say that you can't pass off short and unfinished work as a "concept".
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, as "ye" brings us all the highs and lows we've come to expect from Kanye West in recent years. It features some very beautiful and humane moments, and the production is mostly very good, but the whole thing seems flushed out to quick. The "short album" thing doesn't work as well as it did with Pusha T's razor-sharp "DAYTONA", and "ye", despite it's moments of past greatness, feels like it's just too little, too late.

Production is fantastic and packed with such small details and features. Very basic in terms of lyricism and mostly melodic throughout, I would of liked a track of two with more depth like prevoious projects and tackles the subject of mental health in a very well held manner and still holds a lot of room for relistening

Despite this, some tracks were not fully executed especially the first track, where he is speaking for around a minute. I'd understand skits and interludes in an album like TLOP, but this was a too short album for time to be wasted. In my opinion, this is one of Kanye's lesser greater albums, but in saying that it is still an amazing album compared to other rap albums. I just think Kanye put too much focus in Daytona to worry about his own album, but that is what all great producer's do like Dr. Dre, who instead of advancing his career made music for the likes of 50 cent and Eminem. Therefore, this album for me would be a 78 which would round up to an 8 out of 10. To Kanye's standards the album was not too great, but compared to other hip hop albums, it was an excellent project and I am comparing this to other hip hop albums. Strewth. Expand

"Ye" is Kanye West's eighth studio album and his shortest by far, with only 7 tracks and about a 23-minute run time. On this album, Kanye speaks about topics such as mental health, drug addiction and the fears of being a father. Yet while he might be talking about serious issues, I feel like he barely scratches the surface. For example on the first track, 'I Thought About Killing You' Kanye starts the song with a dark yet hilarious word passage that I thought opened the album up nicely. However, it's then followed up with a clustered verse where none of that dark-humor is present.

The track 'Yikes' Kanye talks about the prescription drug addiction he had and is stating it was 'frightening' and how he scares himself sometimes. The content of this song is good, but sonically it sounds the same as the stuff he was doing on “The Life Of Pablo” which I wasn't a fan of.
'All Mine' is probably the worst song on the album with its terrible chorus and its ridiculous lyrics.
'Wouldn't Leave' was another track where I thought he barely scratched the surface of anything serious. He brings up the issues we want him to talk about, but that's it, he doesn't expand on them whatsoever.
Kanye also sounded like he was reflecting all the mistakes he's done and seems to be brushing them off like “Oh, well Kim didn't leave me so I cant be in the wrong.”
'Ghost Town' is by far my favorite track on the album. Kid Cudi and 070 Shake did such great jobs with their features, Kanye himself sounds really good as well. This song was grand, detailed and everything you would expect from a Kanye West made song and was a major stand out on the album.
'Violent Crimes' is the last track. Where he talks about being a dad and the worries he has with his daughters growing up. All around great song.

While I think this is one of Kanye's most personal albums, I don't think he wasn't able to expand on these topics well enough for me to feel anything. Saying that the sound of these songs were not bad at all and I will be revisiting tracks like No Mistakes, Ghost Town, and Violent Crimes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album has some great songs that feel really good. I listened to each song twice and spent time thinking about each one. I enjoyed listening to it overall but I am only gonna keep 3 out of the 7 on my music play-list.

    "I Thought About Killing You"
The first half is not really music. He is just talking. Its kinda like poetry. When he starts rapping its not bad but I didn't care for it. He has a few nice lines but that's it. I just don't think its a song so its probably my least favorite in the album.

    "Yikes"
Pretty good song. Lots of good lines. I personally don't care for it too much but I think its good overall. I could see others enjoying it.

    "All Mine"
The best song in the album in my opinion. I like the beat and flow. Would recommend %100.

    "Wouldn't Leave"
It's a song about Kanye's personal life. He is saying how he knew Kim wouldn't leave even though he has been controversial. The song itself isn't bad. I like it a bit less than "Yikes" because there are parts that ruin the flow.

    "No Mistakes"
I don't like this one. I think he is talking about Kim again but there is no substance to it. My second least favorite song in the album.

    "Ghost Town"
I think this is a good song. Its got a good flow. Not my favorite but its one of the good songs.

    "Violent Crimes"
This is a really good song. Its my second favorite. It's Kanye talking about his kids and worrying about guys objectifying them. There is one part at the very end that ruins it. It's just talking and that sucks if its on a big play-list because it ruins the flow. The song is still really good.

So in conclusion. I think the good stuff is: "Violent Crimes", "Ghost Town", and "All Mine"
The rest didn't do anything for me.

And while I do applaud the candidness about his mental illness, It almost feels like it is used as an excuse for Kanye's erratic and offensive behavior than a true discussion or expression of his psyche. In the end, it is crowded out by so much nonsense that it fails to actually make an impact and lift the album to level that it aspires to be at.

Weirdly uninteresting for Kanye. On every album up to this point, Kanye has mined some new musical idea or reinvented himself in some way. These songs sound like they could have been outtakes from any of his previous records. There are strong moments, but Kanye's whole "I'm just so crazy" schtick is getting old, and his need to find new ways to provoke is bordering on self-parody. KanyeWeirdly uninteresting for Kanye. Kanye didn't have to do a bangers record, but the second half of this thing is almost "ballad heavy". I suspect that aspects of this record were thrown together. Kanye's line about his "slavery was a choice" statement indicate that he recorded at least some of his vocals within the past couple of weeks. Also, "Ghost Town" might be the most awful, obnoxious track in Kanye's career. Cudi sounds like he's doing a Chad Kroeger impression. Just bad.

I liked Yeezus right away. Same with TLoP. Both records grew on me even more as time went on. "Ye" just feels so light, I don't think there's enough creative material to keep me coming back.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the first two tracks are excellent, the highlight of the album is the first song(the beat drop before the switch, is insane). But I will focus on the rest of the album which is very underwhelming, at times boring and flat. Besides the first two songs, the album does not have any of the compelling compositions that created obscure nuances which made him such an artistic genius. 'wouldn't leave', 'all mine', and 'violent crimes' are especially bad. A very mediocre album, which is unexpected from whom this reviewer considers to be the most magnificent artist of all time not just a generation. hugely disappointing album if you are more than a casual fan of his. Though the tracks are sampled and produced fabulously; the bars have departed entirely from Ye's egoistic, lyrically complex style. It's unsubtle, disturbing, and feels like a minimal effort on Ye's part. This, not to mention the delusional social commentary, make for a disappointing experience especially if you're someone that dislikes that gospel-esque sing-songy beats.

Kanye returns with much of the same production prowess he's become famous for over the course of his career on 'Ye.' The problem is, no amount of incredible sampling can save this album from the fact that it sounds incredibly half-assed. Sure, Kanye is known for his rough-around-the-edges artistry, a factor that works to his benefit on albums like 'The Life of Pablo.' The problem is, no amount of incredible sampling can save this album from the fact that it sounds incredibly half-assed. Sure, Kanye is known for his rough-around-the-edges artistry, a factor that works to his benefit on albums like 'The Life of Pablo.' The difference, however, is that on albums like 'TLOP,' this roughness sounds like it stems from a thirst and ambition to create something great, a thirst that can never be quenched; on 'Ye,' it sounds like Kanye got cocky and imposed this one-month deadline on himself for the sole purpose of proving to his ego that he could create an album in such a short time span. It is an impressive feat indeed - but that alone does not make this album a good one. Lyrically, it's easily his weakest album - and it's not close. There are the typical Kanye-isms we all crave, but they are surrounded by lines and lines of cheesy, superficial lyrics that don't come close to the level we expect from the Kanye we all have come to know and love. While the production and sampling are incredible as per usual, the songs suffer from a blatant and painful brevity. On Kanye's first GOOD Music project of the summer - Pusha-T's 'Daytona' - for example, the songs were cohesive and nuanced enough that the album, just seven tracks in length, feels MUCH longer than its 21-minute run time, in a great way. 'Ye' feels like it's over in 15 minutes, and leaves the listener with much to be desired - not in the sense of wanting more, but more so wishing for a do-over. In the end, I can't help but feel that, just maybe, we've arrived at the point in Kanye's career where so much new ground has been tread that there simply is not much more left to tread. I hope to God I'm wrong - and if there's any one person who can prove it and come back from a place like that, it's Kanye. One thing is for certain, though - 'Ye' the first Kanye album we did not need. (5.2/10) Expand

Mixed album; there wasn't enough content and some tracks were boring. Significant lack of vocals that could have shown off his power as a rapping artist. Some good tracks, but the majority is obsolete and doesn't flow well.

This album is my least favorite from Kanye's discography. This album felt rushed and unfinished. Not his best.

Too short overall, mediocre & uninspired productions, repetitive, etc. Nowhere near his previous works.

Ye couldn’t impress me. Verses may be are actual, but I don’t like it. Music compilation and texts compilation are classical for Ye, I generally don’t fall in love with that

I guess rhyming the same word with itself and saying a bunch of crazy stuff that doesn't really make any sense is amazing to some people, but not to me.

Production and delivery wasn't bad so I gave it a few points for that, but it is a zero in terms of the actual rapping and lyrics.

Given the desperate attempt to hype the album release, I can't say I'm surprised to find Ye severely underwhelming. Definitely it's worst Kanye album out, raw mix and master, weird beats, I feel like this album is missing something, not a fan of this album but I can understand people that love it and consider it as top 3 Kanye. Perfect word to describe this is RAW.

I loved Late Registration and College Dropout and I stuck around through the New Ye but this isn't good. However I do want to give positives on the fact that this is definitely one of the most emotionally vulnerable Kanye albums we've ever seen. He's more honest, less grandstanding, and more in touch with himself. Hopefully this is just going to build up into a wave for a great future project.

Wow… why did I listen to this? To start this off, I listened to Kanye West’s “ye” because of two reasons: I thought I’d give rap music a try, and I was interested in listening to West’s latest, which has gotten mixed reviews from critics and I thought one of the songs was pretty funny upon listening to it’s very end with some people I know. ye on the other hand, was absolutely horrible. I don’t know what I was expecting, but certainly not drum tracks and synths with lots of explicit language, especially the use of the N-word. It just made me so uncomfortable and it was offensive. On the other hand, the only two slightly bright(er) spots in this album were Wouldn’t Leave and No Mistakes, since the music was actually decent, even if that’s not the music I would choose to listen to on a regular basis. I’m sure Kanye West has a lot of supporters, but after listening to ye, I’m definitely not a part of that list. This is the first downright negative review I have given to any album. Hopefully his next album is better. Highlights: none :(

The positive reviews here are laughable. This album is complete trash and comes nowhere close to replicating Ye's best work. It's 23 minutes long and Kanye is talking, not rapping over at least 6 minutes of that, including basically the entire first song. Uninspired guest spots take up another huge bulk of the record leaving the listener with only a few verses of Kanye rapping in totality. The positive reviews here are laughable. Cliche and way too on the nose. It basically feels like a boring, self adulating, lecture from a washed up professor. I listened to it all the way through twice to give it a fair chance and I promise I will never listen to any of it ever again. None of these songs are hits or even appropriate to play at parties or in the car. None have staying power. The once great Kanye has become an embarrassment (well he's been that for awhile now). A Trump supporter and someone who disparages mental health on his album cover. I couldn't make the rating go any lower, so a zero it is. I used to love Kanye despite his insanity and inability to connect with normal humans. No more.

What a piece of garbage. Everything on this album (if you can really call it that) is nothing but distilled EGO. There is absolutely nothing of worth here and it a massive waste of your time and money. Spend both elsewhere, Kanye is washed up.

ye is an average album with some good songs, some bad songs, and some songs that will clearly be spun millions of times. The problem is that "average" has never been good enough for Kanye West nor should it be.

For all his power as a motivating force it’s perhaps inevitable that Ye proves weakest of the first four. Left to his own devices West sounds bewildered, somewhere between awe and exhaustion. [Aug 2018, p.63]

Ye can feel uneven, sometimes boring, and more indulgent than usual, but it's a fascinating peek into West's psyche.
