Jul 28, 2019The concept is the most ambitious and creative arguably in music history. The production is eclectic and pushes boundaries in the genre. The lyrics as always are brilliant. This is all around superb. It might lack the replay value of other great albums, given it's density and strict concept, but it's still an artifact of 2010s hip hop from one of the greatest to ever do it.
-
Apr 17, 2017One of Kendrick's best albums, no doubt. A mixture of Jazz and Blues beats over hard hitting, passionate rap and powerful messages about race and equality that can move even the most racially indifferent person.
-
Apr 22, 2017This album combines elements of hip-hop, jazz, funk, rock, trap and much more, while sound incredible throughout. Kendrick's lyrics, flow, rhymes and concepts are astonishing. 10/10
-
Apr 27, 2017The best album of 2015, and probably the decade. So rich in sounds, so deep in lyrics, so well enginereed that even though I didn't think that Kendrick could not ever top Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, he certainly did it with TPAB.
-
May 8, 2017Kendrick Lamar is at the peak of his craft with this album. The beautiful mix of jazz and hip-hop along with the story and issues he attempts to and successfully tackles in this introspective, social commentating masterpiece solidify his place as one the genre's all-time greats.
-
May 11, 2017This album was so rich and so soundfull, i love how Kendrick mixed between smooth jazz and rap and i loved the lyrics they were so deep, i think thats the best album of 2015 or i can the best album of the decade so far.
-
May 23, 2017To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar makes me proud to be black... and I'm white. Absolute art in every way.
Best songs: How Much a Dollar Cost / u / Alright -
Jun 4, 2017The greatest hip hop album of all time. Production is funky, jazzy, tear-jerking, banging and philosophical all at once. Lyrics are poetic, deep, and playful. So much meaning behind it, and it is conveyed in a beautiful way. I'd say it's the only hip hop album to be in the top 20 albums of all time.
-
Jun 21, 2017Has anyone ever done something like this? This is pure art, pure poetry, Lamar at his best. The lyrics, the sounds, the beats, everything is just so perfect. And that finale, maaaan. One of the best albums ever, period!

Sep 24, 2017Masterpiece. Grasping the concept of individual songs throughout the album ultimately paint the pure art of this album. Complex lyrics and jazz/funk infused hip-hop beats lay the foundations of the best body of work this decade.

Nov 24, 2017A modern masterpiece. In my opinion, the height of Kendrick Lamars' remarkable career. TPaB's content is so refreshingly different to that of today's mainstream hip hop, Kendrick addressees political topics, societal ones and confronts his own feelings, both positive and negative. The best album since the turn of the century.
-
May 16, 2018To Pimp a Butterfly is probably one of the best albums that I've ever heard. Every song on this album has a story to tell and a very deep message. Kendrick knows how to write songs and also perform them amazingly. The production is great and the songs are incredibly catchy. In the end, listen to it.

Jul 23, 2018An album that’ll most likely stand the test of time as one of the most significant rap albums of all time. I has amazing production, powerful lyrics, and shows the struggles of the African-American community in an era where there’s political uncertainty.
-

Jan 2, 2019Good Album.
Best Songs: King Kunta, Instituionalized
Very interesting sound -
Mar 7, 2019Absolutely necessary. Kendrick has made one of the most essential and brilliant albums in years. The lyricism and commentary is completely air tight, and the music itself defies categorization. I'm sure that some people on metacritic don't like this album, but keep in mind these same people gave MMLP2 10s.

Apr 18, 2021You know EXACTLY why this is a 10. The production, lyricism, political influence, and the rap style of Kendrick Lamar are all masterpiece level. I can’t name one thing wrong with this album, and it shouldn’t be this low of a score on Metacritic. Absolutely phenomenal album.
-
Apr 2, 2019This album is great for various reasons. It has many memorable tracks such as Alright, King Kunta, and These Walls. Kendrick improves on his craft and really takes it to another level!
-
May 28, 2019Most unique album ever known to mankind. All of kendrick's voices are present: enraged, sympathetic, high pitched, rough-edged, panic-driven, authority voice and many more. He manages to outline all the problems within the society. It deserves to be the most acclaimed hip hop album of this decade.
-
May 31, 2019Just about as close to perfect as you can get. Its incredible that Kendrick was able to one up himself after dropping a project like GKMC.
-
Sep 9, 2019I have no negative thing to say about this album. This is one of the greatest rap album of all time, even Kendrick's best album so far! This is an instant classic and a masterpiece! Nothing to say more. sorry.

Best album of the decade. Kendrick proves that he is the voice of this generation and tries to be a role model. -
Dec 10, 2020Probably the best Rap album released this past decade. Tackling subject matter such as race issues all of that with an immaculate production that sounds different than a lot of other contemporary rap albums. This a timeless body of work!
-
Aug 16, 2019Tbh I personally think that this album is overrated but it still loves up to it.

Top 5 Tracks: Wesleys Theory, u, How Much A Dollar Cost, Alright, These Walls

Feb 9, 2020Tá aqui prova de tudo que o rap sabe e que tem a mostrar, se fosse pra mim dizer um álbum para escutar até eu morrer sem parar, To Pimp a Butterfly seria ele.
-
Sep 3, 2019Powerful movement into a classical legendary position for Kendrick musically and poetically, while shifting the tides and bending the bars of what storytelling rap was, and what it will forever be.
-
Sep 10, 2019Muito provavelmente o melhor álbum de rap da década. Álbuns como esse serão usados como referência na história do rap.
-
Nov 1, 2019The most impressive storytelling I've seen in any studio project, this is a masterpiece and my favorite album of all time.
-
Sep 28, 2019The album that made me interested in music. Before this i didn't care much for music albums, but TPAB has changed that and is still one of the best rap albums I ever heard.

Mar 31, 2020A modern Abby road, probably one of the best records ever made. A fantastic hip-hop record that transcends the genre and rap itself. Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, and you have TPAB. This record is a classic.

-
Jan 17, 2020glad to live in this era and hear this, every song means something, a nice pick from lamar on beats.
-
Jan 17, 2020Great follow up to good kid maad city. Really shows off Kendrick's talents as a lyricist if not poet.
-
Jan 18, 2020Looking back on this album, it’s still amazing. It”s aged very well and has both great production and rapping. Kendrick’s storytelling is off the charts here and the amount of emotion on songs such as ‘u’ is absolutely amazing. Possibly the greatest hip-hop/rap album of all time. 10/10
-
Jan 19, 2020incrível e o melhor álbum de rap já feito, Kendrick não impressiona por ser um artista completo e nunca esquece da pauta importante que é o BLM - não só nos EUA - no mundo todo.
-

-
Jan 22, 2020Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 masterpiece, To Pimp a Butterfly, consists of some of the smartest, most concise, and engaging lyrics on race relations and poverty in America, accompanied by precise and perfect instrumentation as well.
-
Jan 22, 2020
-
Jan 22, 2020Literally the perfect album, not a single second do i question Kendrick’s genius. The comments against this album’s replay value puzzles me because I can put on any song and vibe to it. I don’t want to get into its themes and storylines etc as that is overly discussed plus just in better ways than i could ever describe.
-
Jan 22, 2020Simply amazing front to end, no bad tracks, just the best, this man rapped over jazz beats and it was amazing, nothing like it, the story is amazing, just go listen with an open mind.
-
Jan 22, 2020Best Rap Album of all time by far; the discography and themes explored are 10/10 and the storytelling style of experimental rap puts you in his position: if you liked Good Kid Maad City, this is similar but covers the theme better

Apr 30, 2020This album is amazing. this is basically a perfect album, the only things that could be better are some of the features and some of the instrumentals (which still are amazing). (one of) the best rap albums ever.
-

Feb 1, 2020Quite simply one of the best, if not the best album I’ve ever heard. The building of the spoken word piece is still genius almost 5 years later.
-
Sep 8, 2021This is a masterpiece. Perfect piece of art and one of the best hip-hop albums of all time.
-
Feb 3, 2020Like most of Kendrick's albums, very tasteful, but not very inspiring. Not as great as the reputation and accolades would suggest. Nothing about this album blew me away.
-
May 6, 2020In 50+ years, when people need to look back in history and discover life back in 2015, the BLM, and 400 years of systematic oppression, this will be the soundtrack to that life. And nothing else.
An album that holds the test of time. -
