    Very mature album, but I think 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' was far more interesting. Lyrics are top-level, but the music doesn't sound that engaging, at least on first listening. Let's see if this becomes a grower.

    This is the most boring album in the arctic monkey's discography. I mean there isn't one song to get excited about whatsoever. This sounds like a bad Alex Turner solo project. All these AM's fanboys saying this a masterpiece? I don't believe you. If any other band released this lounge music rubbish, you wouldn't listen to it!

    you have to feel the feelings in order to understand the beauty of this album. surely it's not for everyone. glad i can get it. an amazing album, love how arctic monkeys always improve and put out something new. people will get this album YEARS LATER, it sounds so timeless.

    What a cohesive album! Not just great songs have been added to my playlist, ‘The Car’ is an album which I’ll revisit often as a whole. The strings and keys added so much to the band’s sound, made me fell in love for them all over again. Every track is a banger, but Body Paint entered favorite-songs-ever territory. This is the kind of sound which only gets better, and because of that it’sWhat a cohesive album! Not just great songs have been added to my playlist, ‘The Car’ is an album which I’ll revisit often as a whole.     The Car is incredible. It shows why Arctic Monkeys are considered one of the greatest modern bands. The evolution of the band can be noticed from the first song to the last. It may be a difficult album to digest for many just like what happened with TBHC but the quality and sophistication will place it as one of the best records of the band and the decade.

    A great epic jump from their previous album, the orchestra on this album is beautiful and really compliments the band and most importantly Alex Turner's vocals which have taken to a new style which I'm every part here for! Congratulations AM

    What the hell is this!! They sound like they've been heavily medicated on "doctor's order". Did someone replace Matt with an automated drum machine. Are they a weekday basement lounge band now. Is this lounge music? Did someone lobotomize the band. What did they do to them? This is terrible... Can't differentiate between any of the songs. They all sound the same and are unmemorable.     Just like the previous albums, it needs a view listens to really sink in. But their new album is again a masterpiece, especially the songs Body Paint, There'd Better be a Mirroball, Sculptures of Anything Goes and Big Ideas. Can't wait to see them perform it live.

    Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino has been my favorite album for years, and The Car feels like the perfect follow-up. It treads into new territory without completely demolishing the precedent set by the last album, and the instrumentals and vocals are some of the best that the band has ever made. For anyone who claims that Arctic Monkeys have gotten worse over time, consider that they’re notTranquility Base Hotel & Casino has been my favorite album for years, and The Car feels like the perfect follow-up. It treads into new territory without completely demolishing the precedent set by the last album, and the instrumentals and vocals are some of the best that the band has ever made. For anyone who claims that Arctic Monkeys have gotten worse over time, consider that they’re not teenagers anymore and are not going to make music that doesn’t reflect their lives.     Listening to the album feels like a travel through many different chapters of a big story. Arctic Monkeys really knows how to set a mood. The evolution from era to era is amazing.

    a lot is said of an evolution of the band, understandable such a vision, but it’s a difficult album to hear. even with a beautiful melody, but Alex's voice are annoying when trying to sing in a very different way than the general public was used to. it's sounds more like a solo album of the Tuner than the album of the band Arctic Monkeys. anyway, less bad than TBHC.

    Similar to tranquility base hotel & casino, but definitely a more mature album, you can tell that every detail was polished before recording which makes it great, the violins and the guitar solos give a different experience than what you are used to.

    I haven't listened to Arctic Monkeys since "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not." I am by no means a dedicated fan, but when I noticed a new album drop, I checked it out.

    Just to confirm I was remembering "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" correctly, I put it on as well, just to compare the two. Talk about whiplash.

    Let me just say it outright - this album is very hard to listen to. The way to enjoy it would be if you are JUST listening to it on a rainy day in a low lit empty hotel bar in the mountains. Not while you work or clean, not while you're driving, not while you're doing anything else. You MUST give it your full concentration, otherwise it is just unbearable. For me this gives the album aLet me just say it outright - this album is very hard to listen to.     Fans seemingly love this absolute drabble but personally i believe that if a band is to experiment this much with their sound it's best left to side projects and leave the essence of what the band was in the past. The Arctic Monkeys should have split off and made the Autumn Orangutans the same way and left what the fans loved about Arctic Monkeys alone.

    If i wanted to listen to smooth lounge and falsetto voices i'd have picked up Robbie Williams' collective works or delved into some Richard Cheese, by the way nothing against these 2 examples just proving a point.

    I initially marked this review as 0 but upgraded it to 3 because as lounge music goes it's alright, got some funk and Alex Turner still has a beautiful voice. But Arctic Monkeys music this is not. Maybe they should have quit after they finished AM, the last good album they made.    … Expand

    This sadly confirms their direction to the Lounge genre and if it didn't have the Arctic Monkeys name, it would largely have gone forgotten.     Albums 1-5 are what you listen to when you’re ready to go out, Album 6 was what you listen to when getting high at home with the lights turned off. This feels like what you listen to with a glass of wine. And I’ve loved all 7. They each have their own place for me. As for this album… The 3 singles (Body Paint, Mirrorball, I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am) are the album standouts asAlbums 1-5 are what you listen to when you’re ready to go out, Album 6 was what you listen to when getting high at home with the lights turned off. This feels like what you listen to with a glass of wine. And I’ve loved all 7. They each have their own place for me.     While they have returned to earth, the sound is one of the most beautifully polished albums of their career. Special mentions go to ‘Sculptures of Anything Goes’, ‘Hello You’, and ‘Big Ideas’. The closers, Mr Schwartz and Perfect Sense, are perfect bookends for this amazing album. Great experience, and Alex Turner's emotionally-charged lyricism is as vulnerable as ever on this.     Another piece of art from Arctic Monkeys. Some will say that they miss the old rock they use to do. But when you’re this good at any type of sound you do, you have the right. The car has great tracks such highlights as There’s better be a mirrorball and Sculptures Of Anything Goes where the band has done their best work.

    The most nuanced and brilliantly mixed album of this band. It expands it's own areas of music in a gorgeous way. Unique album. Lyrics are mysterious but specific in a brilliant way that only Turner can find.

Working all together to take another evolution in its sound, evolving from where they left with Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and creating something unique and authentic in this days were the important thing to many artists is to make a hit on tiktok. This album is an intimate one, probably the mostPerfect balanced gorgeous work of art. That´s Arctic Monkeys in its finest expression. Working all together to take another evolution in its sound, evolving from where they left with Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and creating something unique and authentic in this days were the important thing to many artists is to make a hit on tiktok. The Car is a beautiful and rewarding listen, and you have to applaud the vision from Turner & co. The Car is a beautiful and rewarding listen, and you have to applaud the vision from Turner & co. The strings add a whole new dimension to the bands sound here and the addition of wah wah pedals (I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I am, Jet Skis on The Moat) and moog synthesiser (Sculptures of Anything Goes) are welcome additions to the bands armoury. It must be said too that this is their most diverse album in terms of genres experimented with and also genres that influenced the sound of the record, which is reflected clearly throughout the album. Despite the disparate styles used, the songs fit together well and the album flows at a nice pace throughout. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get on board with Mr Shwartz and The Car yet and they do let the second half on the album down a bit for me.

    The Car will reward multiple listens, and after my second it’s at an 9. It could go down as one of their best in years to come.    … Expand

    Its a no skip for me, I'm a fan of their later sound though, I can see why those who like their earlier works might not enjoy it as much or at all. I think it's a matter of taste, if you like this sound, it's VERY good. The melodies, lyrics, strings and the way Alex sings, give it a dreamy vibe that's like butter to ears really.

    Secuela de canciones fenomenal, representa excelente los sentimientos y transmite una emoción indescriptible. Sin duda alguna se salieron de la zona de confort del rock indie que manejaron en los otros álbumes, pero suena espectacular.

    In lack of better words, I’ll put it plainly: this is an excellent record. It’s unlike anything they’ve done before, yet contains some inspirations from older records on some songs (for example, the Humbug and AM vibes on    Departing from the groovy, retro futuristic Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018), Arctic Monkeys are back on earth with the orchestra filled, 70s inspired The Car.

    In lack of better words, I’ll put it plainly: this is an excellent record. It’s unlike anything they’ve done before, yet contains some inspirations from older records on some songs (for example, the Humbug and AM vibes on ‘Sculptures of Anything Goes’). It flows beautifully with each song differing from the other, like the first three track run: melancholic piano centered ‘There’d Better Be a Mirrorball’ to the funky, wah pedal effect full ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’ to the dark and spooky ‘Sculptures.’

    The Car is a beautiful record. You can clearly see the maturity of a band that has now existed for 20 years, who has gone through drastic sound changes beautifully without disappointing but without losing the lyricism that sets Alex Turner apart from the fellow rockstars of his generations.

    It’s a 10/10 for the lyricism, melodies, and Alex’s wonderful vocals (special shout-out to ‘Hello You’ for this)    … Expand

    Artic Monkeys return eyes set on continuing the captivating left turn they risked in 2018 but now with a sophisticated lush string form. It's smooth and concise allowing you to pass through each song like listening to a movie's soundtrack.     I think it's a good album. "There'd Better Be A Mirrorball" is one of Arctic Monkeys' best songs. The production is amazing. But I have a little problem with Alex's falsetto voice, I don't think he's good enough at it. And the previous LP was more interesting both structurally and instrumentally, so that's exactly what I expected here. Maybe it will grow on me in the future like theI think it's a good album. "There'd Better Be A Mirrorball" is one of Arctic Monkeys' best songs. The production is amazing. But I have a little problem with Alex's falsetto voice, I don't think he's good enough at it.     I have listened to every Arctic monkeys album to some capacity, the only one I haven't fully listened to is "whatever people say i am that's what i'm not" so I feel like I have some standing to say that this album is a beautifully crafted masterpiece, it brings me back to 2018s "tranquility base hotel and casino" and 2013s "AM". It has a feeling of reflection, and while being differentI have listened to every Arctic monkeys album to some capacity, the only one I haven't fully listened to is "whatever people say i am that's what i'm not" so I feel like I have some standing to say that this album is a beautifully crafted masterpiece, it brings me back to 2018s "tranquility base hotel and casino" and 2013s "AM". It has a feeling of reflection, and while being different from what everybody expected, being another rock album, I feel like the integration of a more mellow tune taking hints from albums like humbug AM and TBHAC really brings emphasis on the bands maturity from 2002 when it was formed all the way to present day where we see huge shifts in music and expression on a daily basis, and it is a strange yet comforting feeling that I get from this album, there may be a hint of bias because of them being my favorite band, but I do feel like the strides they took were very bold with the sixth and seventh albums, it wasn't what we may have expected or wanted but I don't believe anybody could hate it, it has a very well composed and melodic tune throughout the album and with the song "I ain't quite where I think I am" is a good example of it bringing in elements that they have developed over the 20 years the band has been together.     Cinematic and beautiful, this thing is a different level for them. Admittedly it can be a bit challenging at first, especially if you were hoping for something a little more straight forward and aggressive (like me), but underneath it all this is undeniably an Arctic Monkey's album. I think it ranks as one of their best. I enjoy it quite a bit more than AM and TBHC. (Oh, and describingCinematic and beautiful, this thing is a different level for them. Admittedly it can be a bit challenging at first, especially if you were hoping for something a little more straight forward and aggressive (like me), but underneath it all this is undeniably an Arctic Monkey's album. I think it ranks as one of their best. I enjoy it quite a bit more than AM and TBHC. (Oh, and describing this as "lounge" music in anyway is misleading. It's not.)… Expand

Back to back albums confirming that this is now a chapter of sound in the career of arctic monkeys. I found TBHC a challenge and have to admit I never fully got into it but with "The Car", I'm much more on board. Bar a slight dip in the middle, it is"The Car" is an evolution of and a more successful execution of the ideas that drove their previous album "Tranquility Base Hotel Casino". Back to back albums confirming that this is now a chapter of sound in the career of arctic monkeys. I found TBHC a challenge and have to admit I never fully got into it but with "The Car", I'm much more on board. Bar a slight dip in the middle, it is extremely consistent. The style is a real throwback to the age of lush psychedelia but with the bands immistakable take. While "The Car" can hardly be called a classic album, the band have long outgrown their original audience and the audience they gathered as they went. They now sit with the heavy hitters based on the range of ambition and achievement across their back catalog.… Expand

The glitz and buoyancy of "Tranquility Base..." is still here, but the excitement of the instrumentation of that record is scaled back immensely. The only enjoyable track on here is "There'd Better Be a Mirrorball".     What's interesting, similarly to how TBH&C talked about songwriting, this album seems to talk about style shifts and listeners reactions to artistic decisions, with The Car symbolizing such shift. But this might just be my impression.

    Sounds okay until you pay attention to the lame lyrics.
    All the songs sound the same and Alex Turner has little variety in the way he sings throughout the album. AM is so much better.

Rather than the show-tune style of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino or rock-heavy style of AM, this album moves towards a beautiful mix of the two. Borrowing the heavy electric guitar from AM, as well as the quiet maturity of Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, this album brings in orchestral emotion that noAlex Turner and the Arctic Monkeys show the best mesh of their past several albums. Rather than the show-tune style of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino or rock-heavy style of AM, this album moves towards a beautiful mix of the two. Borrowing the heavy electric guitar from AM, as well as the quiet maturity of Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, this album brings in orchestral emotion that no other album could possibly rival. This album is very reminiscent of TBHC, which may rub some fans the wrong way depending on their thoughts on that album. The Car features tracks like Big Ideas that can make a true music fan cry. The amazing composition of this album is indescribable, as you can tell from my partial rambling in this review. Ultimately this album is beautifully calm at points and incredibly energetic at others. A diverse album, true fans will enjoy the sharp contrast between songs.… Expand

    Absolutely stunning. Unlike other bands that usually turn to pop to continue their run, Arctic monkeys have produced an amazing work of art, a masterpiece infact. The only band even close are Midnight Brewers.

    I wasn't expecting The Car to be that good! No other modern band evolved so well like they did in my opinion. This album and AM are probably their best ones. Congrats guys!

    All jokes aside, this album does have a very consistent, smooth, and tranquil sound from start to finish and is also exceptionally well produced. My problem is that it is just a bit too easy to tune in and out of listening. The consistency of this album is so immaculate in reality it is just extremely dull and repetitive self-plagiarism. Each song has a painful lack of identity and character, feeling more like a re-skin of the one you just heard before. What is frustrating is that there are occasional moments of luscious ear pleasing orchestration on this album, most noticeably towards the second half of the track ‘There’d Better Be A Mirror Ball’ and the title track ‘The Car’. These string performances stand out as the most characteristic part of this album, but even still they feel like they can never truly flourish as the musicians are very much trapped in the Alex Turner show 2.0 after Hotel Tranquility Base and Casino started this exact problem. This album would achieve so much more if there was some passion and variety integrated into Turner’s vocal performance. I don’t think there was a single note/lyric which he held for longer than 2 seconds, and as such it plays more like a monotone slam poetry session. The lyrics on this album are mostly fine, but they can be a little on the nose or hard to really care about at times. Some tracks like ‘Body Paint’ do create a sense of story telling intrigue and would actually be quite pleasing to hear again - if another band covered the song. I have no problem with a band evolving sonically and experimenting in new genres, it just feels like this album was a really half-arsed attempt at that. This is the sort of album someone could have on and you could guarantee no one would really notice.    … Expand

    the problem with this album is that it just doesn't match Alex's style, the past 2 albums have been like this and although I liked tranquillity, I didn't like it as much as the first 5. However, I really like that they are experimenting with new styles and ways to produce these tracks. Don't get me wrong, I love monkeys a lot, but I wish we could have a new album with the same hype as the past 5.

    Turner seems to be angling for atmosphere, not hooks, with his melodies. The free-floating croon helps The Car amiably drift in space but it also highlights how the record could use a couple of elements to bring it back to earth.
