Scorpion has more hits than misses compared to Views and More Life in my opinion. While the album may suffer from filler in second disc. The album on the whole is relatively solid with replay value. Highlights from the album include the DJ Premier produced "Sandra's Rose" along with Nonstop, Emotionless, 8 Out Of 10, Nice For What, Don't Matter To Me (with the late Michael Jackson), TalkScorpion has more hits than misses compared to Views and More Life in my opinion. In addition, the album has some filler / weaker / bad songs in my opinion such as; Jaded, Peak, Blue Tint and Mob Ties which isn't a bad track by any measure but sounds eerily similar to a Playboi Carti song.

Overall I think this is more focused album from Drake and his strongest release since **** in 2015. I think the discs make the album more conceptual as one is more rap focused and the other more R&B / Dancehall / Pop. This method helps to satisfy both lanes of Drake's fanbase. 8/10.

Literally gets better every listen. So many haters on this thread, this dude is better than any rapper you all got and people are too scared to admit it. Even on the back side when he sings on In my Feelings or Don't Matter To Me, it's still better than any of the top 50 rap songs. People always find ways to criticize greatness.

All of the bad reviews are just from salty Kanye stans who are jealous that Drake stans are getting fed with 25 songs and they have to survive on a measly seven. The truth is that Drake will never please everyone because some people want the "old Drake" and some people want bangers. The brilliance of this album is that it manages to deliver both. You probably won't like every song, but it offers something for everyone which is imo better than catering to one specific group. The rap side is full of bangers and your typical Drake lyrics. Some of them are overly corny but personally I love those kinds of lyrics. There are some stand-out lines and his flows are overall good, if nothing special. The second side is full of downbeat, introspective, and honestly tear-jerking songs. It's an extremely emotionally honest album and the production, especially on side b, is absolutely beautiful. Everyone will have their fair share of songs that they don't care for, but that list is different for everyone, which is why the album's length was overall the correct choice. Expand

This Album is one of the worst of drakes career. I totally missed the old drake. This album is not that bad though, there are like 12 out of 25 good songs on the album. everything else sucks. I really hope his next album is a big step up.

Hard not to be biased cause I have enjoyed Drake for a very long time but with Scorpion I find it hard to listen too. After a couple of listens I have got into it thanks to a few stand out tracks but the thing that is upsetting that 25 tracks most of it is excess. Any Drake album the production choices are whats this albums saving grace.

Although having clear flaws; such as the number of tracks and the clear switching from Drake's R&B past to a more watered down hip-pop, there are some catchy tunes and it overall encompasses just enough personal Drake too lay over till his next project with multiple mood changes and beat experimentation throughout.

Scorpion was an album of much debate in its time, but looking at it 4 years later, it actually doesn't seem so bad compared to his two subsequent studio albums. I give this album a 7/10, since the majority of it was good/decent, and a third of it sucked BIG TIME. Ultimately, this happens to be better than Certified Lover Boy or Honestly, Nevermind. This is a prime example of why numbers don't make you a top artist. Sucesss does not equate to quality, and it is Drake who disregards such an important principle.

This is a prime example of why numbers don't make you a top artist. Sucesss does not equate to quality, and it is Drake who disregards such an important principle.

Aside from the singles, which were enjoyable but tiring after so long, there is little that stands out in this project. The intro track, Survival, sounds like a ripped off sample of Drake's own "9" from his previous studio album, Views. While 9 was a whimsical trip and a highlight of that mediocre project, Survival has no substance to work with whatsoever. Nonstop is probably one of the weakest Drake singles out there. Instead of passion, his tone is a bore, despite the attempt to establish hype through some arrogant bars. A missed opportunity over this beat. Elevate itself cannot be saved from a French Montana feature. Emotionless and 8 Out of 10, however, are the most exceptional tracks due to the effort by Drake and his refined flow that has been a treasure in rap. God's Plan, though overplayed since it came out early 2018, is still a relevant track to jam to. I'm Upset, much like Nonstop, has no substance.

Drake's constant exclamation on his distrust is already tiring, which is why the second half is an unlistenable portion that attempts to establish a vibe with generic and formulated production. The only exceptions to this is the two singles included in Side B along with After Dark, which in my opinion was above average in delivery, even if it was another track illustrating his desire.

The problem with Drake is that he does not fit two extremes in a spectrum of hip hop demographics. Those looking for a lyrical conscious album will turn away from it. Those in the urban population looking to bump up a track or two will hardly find anything but singles. His progression as a rapper at this point is vague because he's always maintaining his success and struggle with trust and relationships as the focal point for his albums. It is the lack of perspective that separates the second half of his discography from classics like Take Care and Nothing Was The Same. Expect formulated rap to ravage the music industry. As long as the incentive of stream numbers are up there, Drake will cut every corner he can to preserve his "reign" as the "king".

I spent months trying to review this thing in vain. Now has come the time to do so. When I thought about reviewing it I had almost each and every track in mind, everything was clear but time made me forget them so yes, I had to re-listen to all this overly long double-album all again.

What took me so long is that it is a rough test. There are notable songs I honstly enjoy on 'Scorpion' even today (as 'Is There More', 'Emotionless', 'Sandra's Rose' or even 'Nice For What') and from time to time I did like the several vibes coming out of it. In some way. The first listens were even really agreeable and pleasant. But time did not make this grow on me... at all. Instrumentals of the first side made my head bang: they were cool in their minimalist and almost effortless style. Drake delivers some lyrics balancing between great and totally lame. Same for his rapping performances: between just okay to wow is he just simply talking right now?

The second half is literally half-baked. Instrumentals become even more shallow, repetitive and uninspired (with few exceptions as I already said). The Michaël Jackson sample is worst than peeing on his grave. How much money did Drake and his team invest in here in order to harvest some disrespectful fame? Plus the sequence of songs in the second half is messy as hell: we have really moody and sad tracks just side to side with 'Nice For What' and 'In My Feelings'? Is this supposed to be an R&B side? Speaking about 'In My Feelings': everything was quite okay until JT and Yung Miami simply ruined it! Don't they get the concept of vibe, tone, flow and great delivery? Jeez'!

In conclusion it appear really clear that this double-album collected such bad review because of all the beef with Pusha T (and his murderous track 'The Story of Adidon'), Drake's obvious defeat and impossibility to answer properly, all the story with his son no one knew about at that time AND, in addition to all this, the spreading idea of Drake being okay with ghostwriting while he already benefits from a huge team operating in his shadow. Here in 2021 we are expecting Drake's next album, recognizing 'Scorpion' was far from being great.

Scorpion doesn't even come close to being one of his best; instead, it's a one-trick record stretched out into 25 endless tracks by an artist who's so deep into the self-obsessed, self-pitying rut he created for himself that he can't see daylight anymore.

In the long run, a few duds in 90 minutes of material doesn't seem too high a sin, especially considering the same concession could easily be made for a release like the Beatles' White Album. Thus, with Scorpion, Drake makes a cohesive argument for broadening our attention spans and enjoying life's music, regardless of runtime.
