Simply one of the worst albums and attempts at music I've ever heard. Pathetic lyricism and composition. Eminem used to be quite good, one of the best of his time... Now he is truly one of the worst.

It would be a good album, if it was’t Eminem. Eminem is an artist, who should be on higher level. There are few good songs(River, Believe), but Revival is worse in comparison with previous albums

His Worst Album , Why Eminem turn into a rapper who sounds like this crap new generation of rappers? (with a little exceptions like Kendrick and Vince Staples) the songs are lifeless and worthless and the idea is BAD (oh, a political album...)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a solid offering from eminem after in my opinion his last album w was a dud. Obviously there will be protest votes but overall a great album. Walk on water, castles, river and arose are all excellent in their own rite. Believe, offended, and chloraseptic are all show casing his punchlines. Like home is a poppy dis to Donald trump. Untouchable the first half use actually garbage in my opinion but the second half is good. Framed is his return too relapse. I can understand the complaints of it not being consistent it definitely is an attempt to appeal too everyone. In my head is another good song similar to walk on water. The rapping is top notch.

    "I'm that unrealistic prayer answered
And I'ma get you jacked up
like you're tryin' to fix a flat, uh
When you struggle with despair (da spare)"- believe

Insinuations are placed in little riddles and poems
"Left on your pillow in hopes, that when you get home
You'll get the hint, ho: I'm in your window(innuendo)"- framed

""But you kill each other, facts
You peel each other's caps, for silly stuff like hats”
Single mother strugglin’ through substance abuse
While people with nothin' to lose shoot each other for shoes"-untouchable

    "Man, in my younger days
That dream was so much fun to chase
It's like I run in place
While this **** dangled in front of my face
But how do you keep up the pace
And the hunger pains once you've won the race?
When that fuel exhaust is coolin' off
'Cause you don't got nothin' left to prove at all
'Cause you done already hit 'em with the coup de grâce"- believe

"Go to war with me, you'll end up blew to Timbuktu
I send at you a ten-ton nuke like Kim Jong-Un
And end up ruinin' your career
But when all is said and done
And at the end of my run I'll just rewind clocks, forever young
Make time stop, will I ever fall off? That day will never come
'Til the pine box, **** **** you! I'm better than I ever was
'Til the bomb drops, hope it never does
But I'm not gonna sweat it 'cause
This world's screwed, it's already ****ed
And I'm on top, so everyone's just—"-nowhere fast

Overall a good offering and better than some of his more recent work

This is the only Eminem I haven’t liked, it’s sad these brainwashed liberals want to defend a terrible album because they somehow believe the negativity is ONLY because of his need to talk about politics to get attention. This is a whole other side of eminem. A very different sound, i have seen people be mad about this album, and i understand why.. He has changed drastically but most of the tracks on here are very good, some even great. I did not expect Em and Ed to mix well, but they absolutely did. I love everything on here apart from chloraseptic. Thanks Em

True, this album could fall short of the expectations of many but I think this was truly an effort to appease too many. I've found something to like in many of the albums put out over the years, and in doing so I generally liked most of the songs since they showed a little bit of every side.

By not picking a single direction however, I think it leaves more room for fans of his NOT to like the album. If fans were looking for a more raw Em, they will only find it in a few songs and say the rest of the album is trash.

Basically if you're not completely shuttered to a specific style of EM, I think you'll find the album generally enjoyable, as it gives a variety of content and styles while enjoying MM doing what he does best with lyrics. If you're looking for a specific style of Eminem then you may find this album lacking in many areas.

Regardless I feel overall it's worth a listen, especially in an era where I feel like the lack of skill with lyrics is particularly lacking.

Rap's once-unstoppable force is now facing an identity crisis nearly two decades after he flashed onto the mainstream radar. Instead of being a true revival, this new album shows that Eminem isn't sure of who he is or what he's trying to do. It's neither a big political statement nor a cultural one. The jokes and jabs at whoever lands in Em's crosshairs are far and few between. To makeRap's once-unstoppable force is now facing an identity crisis nearly two decades after he flashed onto the mainstream radar. Instead of being a true revival, this new album shows that Eminem isn't sure of who he is or what he's trying to do. It's neither a big political statement nor a cultural one. The jokes and jabs at whoever lands in Em's crosshairs are far and few between. To make this tougher, the beats are only occasionally strong and memorable. "Believe", "Chloraseptic", "River", "Bad Husband", "In Your Head", "Castle" are the tracks that I think most people will get behind and make this album worth a listen. Cuts like "Nowhere Fast", "Like Home" and "Tragic Endings" might find limited appeal but two of those tracks are clearly trying to reproduce some of that "Love The Way You Lie" magic, without having much magic to offer. There are tracks that can be hard listens, such as "Untouchable" which features a tough beat & groove that is more likely to encourage listeners to move on long before the track finds some stride over 2-minutes in, which makes me wonder why anyone would bother going through 2 minutes of "blah" for almost 4 minutes of interesting rhymes and good flow with a much more enjoyable beat. "Walk On Water" may not be smart lead track, just because it's hook is wasted on a talent like Beyonce - it's a weak hook and a "meh" track that hasn't made me excited to turn this album over and start from the beginning. "Offended" is a flow flex, much like "Rap God" was, but with weaker effects that ends up being a 5 1/2 minute journey that reminds me that Eminem is super-talented but not always fun to listen to these days. "Remind Me" is a less-fun and less-clever "Bezerk" wannabe, sampling Joan Jett without much effect.

If I'm being honest, I want to love and embrace Eminem as a current artist that holds the rap throne in a way that nobody else can. The fact is that Revival proves that he's just not adapting as well as he could be. Sometimes Eminem finds his flow and it often is found in cuts that feel very reminiscent of earlier era Eminem ("Believe", "Castle", "Bad Husband"). It's in those moments that I remember why he needs to stick around. His style, his approach that put him at the top isn't fatigued or outdated. Eminem needs to avoid the adaptation route and keep doing what he's good at. Use all the piano and slick beats he can. Be funny, be serious, be a little extra-offensive to prove a point. Make fight songs and bring in collaborators, but only if they're going to be as effective as they were on Recovery, which is Eminem's last great album that ended up being sandwiched by something so-so and something that was just a waste (Relapse). Because Eminem was so unique, his style and his craft have not been worn out yet. He's got another banger album in him and he's got something to say, he just can't get lost in his endeavors. When he's on, he's crushing everyone in the game. When he's off, he's skippable.

Even the hyped-up songs like Untouchable and Remind Me, the latter being effectively an incredibly poor and cheesy version of Berzerk, are boring in terms of lyrics or they just fizzle out intentionally.

I think he sold himself short a bit on flow, not providing a track with the eye-popping flows of Speedom or Wicked Ways. Nonetheless, critics of this album must realize that Eminem did this album for himself, from the personal lyrics to his Trump-bashing that many fans dislike, but if any artist deserves the right to release a self-indulgent album it's Eminem. I personally find the criticism of Trump inspiring and, above all, proof that Eminem is still thinking straight. Expand

The real revelation with this album is that Eminem is no longer the 2000s shock rapper you fell in love with. He has matured in both vision and flow, resulting in a "beautiful mess" of some sorts. The lows are bad, including the abysmal Pink collab and horribly sampled "Framed", but "River" is bound for chart glory and the album closes with enough strength to merit a positive score.

Eminem’s talent with rhyming and flow is obviously present in most cases, but it certainly can’t carry a long work like this on its own, and the flat beats, annoying countermelodies, and lackluster musical ideas did no complimenting and twiddled this down to only a sliver of worth. Eminem's very ambitious flow is back, and that's refreshing, but the lyrics are very poor and cringeworthy. Not only that, but the topics and themes Em rushes through are very risky, especially in the very childish persona he gives off on his music. While Eminem has developed a reputation of being goofy and funny, he still holds that today, so its hard to take him serious at all on this album. Some of the tracks are not that bad, though his hooks are very painful to the ears. I've enjoyed some of the funnier punchlines, among the sea of very mediocre ones. The production is also very mediocre and a little bit dated, making it a bit hard to listen to as well. Overall, Eminem has a good flow, very mediocre lyrics and production, and poor taste in this album.

I think there are songs on here which cater to different sections of his fanbase, which always turns out terribly unfortunately. I think the real reason why this album was so panned is because he alienated half of his fans by telling them to go to hell if they supported President Trump, and because the ad campaign behind it was not very effective. As to why it was panned by critics, it honestly beats me. I do find it funny that the social justice critics didn't come to Eminem's defense when he was talking about legitimate issues with America's politics and racial inequalities. I guess they're still triggered about his edgy lyrics from the past. Most of the users who are leaving bad reviews on the album probably have an issue with the production and choice of beats, and honestly that's my biggest issue. Some of the beats were a little too bland, and Rick Rubin's production was horrible. But to rate this album a 0 is ******* ridiculous, and I'm tempted to give a score of 10 just to offset those morons. All of the guest hooks had great replay value and all of them were catchy as hell. Samples like "I Love Rock N Roll" and "Zombie" awesomely used and yet we get to hear a lot different types of flows and different sides of Eminem through out the album. Album sounds very cohesive and actually flows greatly from song to song. Starting as Em questioning and doubting himself (Walk on Water), then, suddenly starts to rip it apart with songs like (Believe and Choloraseptic). Castle & Arose might be the best concepts Em has ever did in his career. Must listen album.

This is probably Eminems worst album, which is saying a lot. There is no coherence in terms of lyrical content or production except for both being mostly awful.
The Rick Rubin rock tracks are terrible, the samples are lazy and many beats sound like demos. There are desperate attempts to make a hit, but they sound like pop songs from around 2010. It's like Recovery, but even lazier.
There's a lot of terrible Eminem singing too.
The lyrics are often cringeworthy (there are so many terrible punchlines), and there is almost nothing new thematically. Eminem raps about failed relationships, his past drug abuse, being a serial killer, how great he is and occasionally about politics (there isn't nearly as much political stuff on this album as some people claim). Been there, done that. His anti trump hymn is well intentioned, but it brings nothing new to the table and fails to be as biting as his BET freestyle. It's to concerned with being a radio pop hit (which it failed to become).
The only highiights are the lead single and opening track "Walk on Water", which finds Eminem struggling with his own expectations and those of fans and critics. To bad this humble stance he takes is pointless, since there is so much "I'm the best"-talk on the rest of the album. The other tracks worth listening to close the album out. "Castle" and "Arose" are about Eminems near fatal overdose, and even though we've heard him tell this story a lot by now, the tracks are well crafted and quite touching. They also sound like they belong on the same album, unlike the majority of the songs on here.
The Rest of "Revival" is just unfocused, badly written and badly produced. One can only wonder why Eminem, on of the best MC's ever, insists on making these poppy albums that sound like they were recorded a decade ago. Without being mastered. It's not like he needs the money or anything, and album sales show that this isn't even what the people want.
"Revival" sounds like Eminem didn't even really try, and if he did, he's really out of touch with his audience and hip hop in general.

Severely underrated album. The hate was to be expected when he split his fan base with the BET cypher and his anti-Trump remarks, but the album itself was much better than expected.

This album has something for all of his fans, if you enjoyed something from all of his eras, you're going to enjoy the majority of this album. Bottom line; do yourself a favor, listen to the album

One of his best albums ever. He tried to combine all of his albums in this one. Love it very much!!!

Bad production, bad sampling, some awful bars and overall interesting song topics. Eminem still manages to be entertaining on a handful of songs here (Walk on water, Chloraseptic, River, Framed, Castle) but the rest are all pretty sub par.

"You got buns, I got aspergers."
"I’m swimmin’ in that Egyptian river, ’cause I’m in denial/ Say I don’t eat **** but I got a ****-eatin’ grin when I smile."

I'll say it short: I love MMLP, TES and SSLP, even some moments on Recovery and Encore, but this is unbereable. I like "Walk on Water" until I heard the rest of the album, because it's filled with trashy lyrics, an HORRIBLE production from Rick Rubin with overblown and lifeless sounds, ultra-lazy samples and trashy, horrible performances, cheap melodrama and more of Eminem's weaknesses executed in the most poorly way possible. Probably his worst produced and recorded album to date. You will think with Walk on Water he'll redeem himself with this album and his name in the past, but no. It's a 2008 pop-rock-rap-ballad record released in 2017. And I don't even mention his monotone, weak, boring and lifeless flow that sound like a robot who's learning what emotions are. This album sucks.

FAV TRACKS: Walk on Water, parts of Chloraseptic, Framed (except that horrendous hook), parts of Offended, Castle.

    WORST TRACKS: THE REST.

Eminem, obviously, is one of the highest ranked rappers of all-time, surpassing those in the rap game with powerful, yet casually controversial lyrics. Post-Encore Eminem had changed up his style to a more serious and concrete tone, and left many rap fans in awe from his last project, TMMLP 2. In his album, Eminem gets personal and talks more in-depth with his drug abuse and the impact it left upon Marshall himself, and his family, while taking some personal shots at the POTUS Donald Trump, and sneaking in some tracks that were very "Shady-like" , much to the contradiction of literally everything that Eminem tried to somewhat show us.

Overall, this album is a mess. A bunch of collaborations featuring a variety of soft-core pop stars to make rather tired out music. It is unsure what purpose this album holds. Judging from the cover, it's supposed to be a political album? A political album that has Em convert back to Slim Shady and tries to cover his other dirty laundry? The album is equivalent to hearing your grandfather ramble on one subject, and inconsistently switching back and forth with the unexpected.

It is odd seeing Eminem desperately adapt the triple-flow that is dominating the rap game to this date. We've known him for being a creator in the rap game, whether it'd be his hard-hitting sound or his pace on the mic skills. This album is effortless, and tries too hard to get along with the recent demographic of the new generation. It does not help that Dr. Dre has only done around 30 seconds of production on the final product. To have Rick Rubin continue sampling rock into a rap track on a confusing album like this is bound for disaster.

The light I see upon this album is the vocals from the talents addressed earlier. They are without a doubt efficient when it comes to singing, but I just do not like the oversaturation of them in this tougher genre. You can make a great Eminem album with Skylar Grey, but do not force-feed us with Ed Sheeran and more P!nk. I also found interest on the honest discussions towards Eminems family and his struggle to recuperate after his drug abuse The seriousness of Eminem's personal life is a serious factor that made him so renowned, and that is what carried the second half of this project.

Sadly, there was too much going on, and too much contradiction against what a real Eminem album should be. As bad as this album was, Eminem should not be doubted if he dares try again in the near future.

Eminem makes a long-awaited return since his last album from 2013 with his biggest disappointment yet. While some songs have their charm like River, and Walk On Water, most of the album suffers from generic and boring production, weird and awkward samples from other songs, cringey and cheesy lyrics, and guest verses that range from okay to downright despicable.

Revival is an amazing album. The sole reason why Revival is a must-listen is that regardless of what is in nowadays, Eminem is still an ingenious lyricist at the top of his game. The production and features are also great enough and in line with what is needed to be heard at 2018! Unfortunately some critics are stuck in a 2000s' time portal! Eminems rhyme scheme is still on point but his choppy deliver can get annoying. He still has talented story telling songs like castle but half the songs are trash or forgettable but never the less Eminem is one of the if not the GOAT.

I mean it was fine. The first half of the album I can easily say that I disliked, with the only track really liking being River, which is my favourite song featured in revival. It may be because of the story conveyed through the song, or the great hook by Ed Sheeran, but I to be honest love that song. Now the album gets kinda better after the track "Bad Husband". From there till the end the album is a more solid, with the exceptions being the god-awful "Heat" with the unbearable country music and "Castle" with one of the most uninteresting chorus in the entire album. Now except "River", the other songs that I like are "Framed", which I have liked more and more as I've listened it, taking in account that I thought that the chorus was laughable the first time I've heard it and now believing that that was the point. I also liked "Tragic Endings" and found "Nowhere Fast" quite underrated. Yes I was not a big fan of "Walk on Water" as I thought it was kinda dumb.
What I noticed is that my favourite songs except River and Framed are the ones that feature other artists and it became obvious that I got quickly tired of Eminem in this album and that may be why so many other singers were involved. But still, I didn't hate myself listening to it and I would give it a light 6/10.

Eminem becomes everything he hates on this album. He is washed up, making nothing but poor pop tracks and rapping about Trump on the whole album. He shoots for To Pimp A Butterfly, but instead creates a heaping pile of garbage.

A disappointing album, with many bad lines, basic rhyming, and poor production. Only around 4 tracks of the nearly 20 tracks can be considered good.

eminem's charm is a presence in this album. tracks "walk on water", "castle/arose" were heartwarming. and the concept that eminem can handle very well. but the production and music was the let down on this album. wrong choice of decisions, awful hooks. and even the track "need me" not even an em track. but there's still a room of improvement after this. it's just really predictable thateminem's charm is a presence in this album. tracks "walk on water", "castle/arose" were heartwarming. and the concept that eminem can handle very well. but the production and music was the let down on this album. wrong choice of decisions, awful hooks. and even the track "need me" not even an em track. but there's still a room of improvement after this. it's just really predictable that this is gonna suck Expand

The album sounds like a demo, a really bad one. I wonder who actually wrote the album, eminem or a 13-year-old. The answer may be both, eminem's immaturity is unquestionable.

At least a third of the tracks are songs I could do without. The other two-thirds show that whether you love or hate the modern day Marshall Mathers, he's still as relevant as he ever was.
