Honestly my least favorite Ariana album. Everything was a little bit too similar for my taste and it really wasn't as catchy or fun or even as moving as thank you next. In my opinion at least.

Ariana needs to learn to make the lyrics as beautiful as the melodies, her voice and the singing. She could hire better songwriters or learn how to write better, since she wants to have the "yuh" factor, the grace of Audrey Hepburn and all that we all adore (and so we want excellence from her). As an old Ariana stan, I am deeply disappointed by this album. While I get that she's taking the R&B route now, that doesn't mean the music has to sound this incredibly dull and boring. There are plenty of other R&B albums out there that are true gems and don't play it this safe and sound this predictable. I'll be waiting for her next record.

Dangerous Woman will forever be her best album, and while I know it isn't necessarily fair to compare, there was something so new and exciting about DW that positions just doesn't have. positions is predictable, many of the songs sound similar and very few stand out. the lyrics are downright cringe-worthy at times. overall, very disappointed.

The album is basic. All of her albums are better than this one. Ariana has a lot of talent so I'm surprised with these results. Shoutout to ”Nasty” the song that shines the most. I think this is her second worst album. It is very catchy to listen to, but very repetitive. You can make R&B music with meaning too, it doesn't need to be completely about sex. 13/19 songs are about having sex all night. Which I have no problem with a few. Positions and 34+35 are bops. BASIC and SAFE. This is by far the least adventourous and most generic Ariana album ever. Same trap/pop beats that she has used on Sweetener and TUN, the lyrics seem silly (in a bad way) and rushed. I thought ‘Sweetner’ was her worst album, but ‘Positions’ takes the cake. Even the leading single is weak and blends into everything else on the radio.
Every track sounds exactly the same. There’s nothing captivating or memorable about them.
The lyrics are mediocre. Nothing sticks out or hits you. And lastly, her sound hasn’t evolved since 2018. It’s the same trap beat over and over again.

And before y’all come for me I’m black and I know Ariana is capable of doing r and b well (she has the vocals for it) but this whole thing is just a mess. The doja cat and Ariana feature was also a mess and the beat didn’t make any sense. Positions was the only good song good song and it’s because it ironically sounded like it should be on her previous album. From god is a women and 7 rings to.......this. Tragic. White people should Stick to making pop if they’re just going to butcher r and b. Expand

I like ariana as an artist and some of her songs but this album was really just not it.Safety net, pov, just like magic the only good ones on here. She should work on quality over quantity. Maybe horny lil teens might enjoy it but it all just sounds the same

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Probally her worst albun, Ariana Grande is taking advantage of her name and big fan base and makes no effort to improve the quality of her work, they are the same short songs with well-known melodies.

It's depressing that she's receiving so much success from this album, it's really not as great as her other works and no tracks were very interesting or innovative. No new ground, this was a disappointment, there were much better albums this year than positions.

Grande is making no effort to be discreet, instead explicitly owning her sexuality—the album is called Positions, after all. The juxtaposition of beautiful violin sounds and risqué lyrics has become one of Grande’s signature sounds, and it suits her well.

Grande laid bare may well be seen as a stopgap in her canon, using taboo to checkmate her past trauma, but it does pull off the rare feat of at least sounding effortless.

With little conflict and few psychological insights, Positions zeroes in on the enviable confidence that only pop stars on top of the world and with nothing to lose can afford. It's easy to write it off as empty calories, but pop has always been described in such terms: cake, candy, chocolate, confection. Positions isn't a "sweetener" but pure sugar.
