There's a little bit of everything Taylor Swift has done from her past albums: from her roots in country pop until her current electropop phase. She remained one of the best songwriters of all time, even though some cringey lyrics were unavoidable. She's taken out some lyrics too, but it didn't make up.

Another thing that's wrong is in the production, or to be detailed, it's in the mastering. The unsteadiness of audio levels in several songs made one technical flaw, and it's fatal. Even her late project 1989 that considered a loud album executed it better.

Frankly, her songwriting and the production didn't intertwine faultlessly.

Frustratingly inconsistent, rapidly swinging from genius to garbage (sometimes within the same song). Taylor's superb vocal performance is frequently let down by bad production decisions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. it's so overproduced it's exhausting and oftentimes distressing to hear. my favorites are the more stripped down ones (the archer, lover, it's nice to have a friend) and i dream about an acoustic version of cornelia street and daylight 'cause i LOVE those lyrics but the production makes them it so uncomfortable to listen to. I even don’t wanna know that I should to write about this album, because after listening in my mixed feelings. That is bad, but good I’m these moments where Taylor remembered about her country beginning (sound like Speak Now). But pop part... excuse me, Taylor, boy even reputation better than this.

Just listened to the new album by Taylor #Lover and to be honest i'm disappointed.
After tough and dark sound 'reputation' it sounds really boring. Exactly album has some bops and potential hits like 'Cruel Summer', 'Miss Americana' & 'The Man' but i expected for something bigger.

This feels like a downgrade from reputation. It has some good moments, but falls flat quickly. The album is monotonous and long to a point where some songs are straight up fillers. It lacks the pop perfection essence of 1989.

A very cute and Taylor-branded album however adds nothing to Taylor's career artistically

Expand

Lover parece mesclar a Taylor no country antigamente e hj no pop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album does seem too try-hard. It's very Taylor and it's over-Taylor and it wants to please every kind of fan. So she just put every sketch song of every era and combined them all together. I wish I liked it more but it does get tiresome. (And Swift's newfound feminism is so annoying. The Man is so bad, god.)

A little bit of synth pop/new wave, a little bit of country. But the whole album is full of watered down song of those genres or i might say bland commercial pop

I like tay a lot. But this album is not her best work. The album miss some spice over all. it is to much of the same or things we heard before of her. Im a little disapointed to be honest. Its not a bad album. There are great lyrics on the songs written. but overall I give it an O! K!. Sorry guys. Maybe if I hear it more I going to like it a bit better.

Often when it comes to artists I've liked I find that sometimes they have to be left behind because I have matured while their music has stayed still. Yes, 10 years ago I would love to listen to a song about a breakup and how hard it is, but I've grown up from that time. Oddly, Taylor and I are the same age but I feel her music has gone backwards in maturity. She still makes entire songs and lyrics about high school, prom dresses, school hallways. It makes imagery that's actually fairly strong but I graduated a decade ago, I've got a career and an education; Taylor, who is this music for? Who dreams about high school?

As for the quality of the music itself mos to fit plays like very generic pop sound. None of it will floor you, none of it is new or refreshing, it does not bring anything new to the genre.

On this album the songs that stuck out most for me were the tracks where Taylor tries something different or goes back to her roots. Acoustic on Lover, something different on London Boy, country sounds and maturity on Soon You'll Get Better.

Would I recommend this album? Not particularly but you're going to hear it anyway.

    So, my verdict is...... Ehhhhhhh?
While it doesn't have anything as shockingly, audaciously, staggeringly bad as reputation's "I Did Something Bad" and LWYMMD.... it also didn't - save for a few exceptions - have anything interesting enough to be called that? While it, of course, still had a few standouts ("Cruel Summer" and "Soon You'll Get Better" come to mind), they were so few and far between that even pre-release singles "ME!" and "You Need To Calm Down" - two lovecraftian beasts disguised as pop songs - sounded refreshing.
Is it a coincidence that the first album that Taylor owns completely is also the first album that's all but entirely boring?

It’s an album that screams out for an editor, but when it hits the right notes, it demonstrates just why Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

Ultimately, Lover is overstuffed and meandering, but serves as a positive reprieve from her past struggles in the public eye, and represents an artist at the peak of her creativity, power, and—one hopes—continued romantic bliss.

Lover is a fabulous record, full of super-fun standout pop hits that make your heart burst. It oozes with Swift’s much more palatable upbeat sass. She’s in love and also thinking about different kinds of love.
