Is Lover Taylor Swift’s best album to date? The simple answer is “absolutely, yes!” Nostalgia may make us feel guilty to rank her new album above her older, beloved masterpieces. The simple answer is “absolutely, yes!” Nostalgia may make us feel guilty to rank her new album above her older, beloved masterpieces. But this album not only contains her strongest vocals to date and her most adventurous musical choices to date (“False God,” “It’s Nice to Have a Friend”), but it takes the best aspects of her four previous albums (Speak Now, Red, 1989, reputation) and combines them into one LP - making Lover both a step forward for her sound and a cumulative celebration of the road that lead her here. The album contains all the reasons for why we listen to a Swift album - heartbreaking ballads ala Speak Now (“Soon You’ll Get Better”), candid portraits of self-reflection ala reputation (“The Archer”), intimately written love songs ala Red (“Lover”), and sundrenched, carefree 80’s synthpop ala 1989 (“Cruel Summer”). She took the best parts of her career, combined them with a newfound confidence and sense of comfort in her own skin, and made — so far — her greatest work to date. Expand

I feel so bad for underrating Reputation because of Look what you made me do, because that album had so many good songs... This album is personally for me much better than Reputation. Ultimate favorite is the title track.

You are what you love and I'm a lover. I won't say she's back because Reputation was an equally good but misunderstood album. Taylor is known to put the worst foot forward with lead singles (can't understand why). But Lover is such a beautiful compilation of all the colors of love. She's at top of her game here.

Taylor Swift is just a queen, she's made of GOLDEN, even more than RED. So, I think that in the first impression of the album was kinda OK, but the full body of work is amazing. THE BEST SONGWRITER OF MY GENERATION!!

I've been listening to Lover non stop for the past week and I think I'm in a place where I can say it's her best album yet (a spot I've continuously gave to Speak Now). Lover comes in at a stark contrast to the dark vengeful sounds of Reputation, made during a time in her life where she felt her lowest. A lot of people felt the persona she adopted during that era wasn't herself. With LoverI've been listening to Lover non stop for the past week and I think I'm in a place where I can say it's her best album yet (a spot I've continuously gave to Speak Now). Lover comes in at a stark contrast to the dark vengeful sounds of Reputation, made during a time in her life where she felt her lowest. A lot of people felt the persona she adopted during that era wasn't herself. With Lover it's more of a return to face; going back to the bright masterful songwriter we fell in love with. The album features her best songwriting since Red, as well as a nostalgic return to country on the title track that'll put you in the mind of her earlier work. All in all it's a happy bubbly album that'll remind you that her penmanship is unmatched; Miss Americana is a political song that uses High School as a metaphor, Cornelia Street explains the devastating after effects of heartbreak, and You Need To Calm Down is a fun song that embraces the LGBT. You can't go wrong with this album. Expand

An instant love. Sounds different from her previous works. If you love 1989, Speak Now and Red, you would definitely love this album!

This album is the right shot by Taylor Swift. She is still relevant, even thirteen years after the release of her first álbum.
The compositions are well developed, truly human and bring us a pleasant experience at listening to.

This is a very solid pop album, never expected that after awful lead single. Seriously ME! should be deleted or erased from the record. Speaking of the music production and instrumental, they are surprisingly weird, unique but very refreshing. Lyrically, it's a classic Swiftian.

The best album of the year. The album has so many amazing moments and the range it exhibits. She goes from bubblegum pop to trap-pop to 80s synth pop to Jazz to Country. She's done it all and it doesn't feel unnatural at all. Apart from this it has a very consistent linear storyline that runs throughout the album.

This is one of Taylor best albums ever. She is consistent with her sound and tone in this one. Her vocals are her best ever. The lyrics, that may be not better than Speak Now or Red, are without a question one of the best of her entire career. I can´t wait what she will do next because this is an almost perfect album.

Ultimately, Lover is overstuffed and meandering, but serves as a positive reprieve from her past struggles in the public eye, and represents an artist at the peak of her creativity, power, and—one hopes—continued romantic bliss.

Lover is a fabulous record, full of super-fun standout pop hits that make your heart burst. It oozes with Swift’s much more palatable upbeat sass. She’s in love and also thinking about different kinds of love.
