Imbued with more joy than it's predecessor, this project is quite the about-face. Songs are complex, catchy and designed for multiple plays. It's a recommend from me, with one caveat, David's vocals may not be for everyone.

A return to the more warm and flowery sounds of Bitte Orca, David delivers on the weird pop sensibilities only he can pull off this well in a band like Dirty Projectors. All the sudden spurts of instruments exploding back and forth through both sides of the stereo make for such a dynamic musical statement and the vocals/backing vocals work incredibly to bring all the melodies together.A return to the more warm and flowery sounds of Bitte Orca, David delivers on the weird pop sensibilities only he can pull off this well in a band like Dirty Projectors. Definitely going to annoy all my friends into listening to it. Expand

The surface boldness of the art cannot make up for how exhausting this record is to consume. Lamp Lit Prose is not for the faint of heart.

Everything feels so much more alive, everything so much more stark; Longstreth seems to have emerged from a year-long slumber, and there is no more sleeping in sight.

Lamp Lit Prose sparkles with ideas even as it gets its groove on with a more developed version of his electronic R&B album last year. Everything here should be too much but with several albums under his belt, somehow Longstreth can as easily shift from one style to another as run them both at the same time. [Aug 2018, p.65]
